Chapter One
The man reached down and pulled his weapon from its scabbard at his side.  The black blade flashed with red light.  He stalked towards his prey with slow purposeful strides.  He loves the thrill of the hunt, it was what he is trained for after all.
His prey was huddled against a wall sobbing pitifully.  As much as he liked them to run he loved it even more when they gave in, realising how pointless it was to run from him.  He was stronger, quicker and he never gave up.  He smiled, but it wasn't a nice smile.  It was the smile of a hunter moving in for the kill.
A flash of white light signalled the arrival of his enemy.  He paused, the smile fading from his face.  He knew who and what had arrived to spoil his fun.
"You again?"  His voice grumbled unnaturally, resonating deeper than a human voice could achieve.
"This soul doesn't belong to you Soul Chaser."
"And why not Angel?"  He turned on the woman standing behind him.  She was close enough to strike with his blade.  But he knew that it would be pointless to do so.
He looked the woman up and down, passing judgement on her.  She was over a foot shorter than him with long dark brown hair which was shifting around her face, blown by a nonexistent breeze.  Her floor length dress hid her body from his gaze.  He had seen the reaction of other people to her and knew that they thought her beautiful but he was beyond thinking such thoughts, usually.
He couldn't deny that deep down he enjoyed having these little skirmishes with her but tonight it was just an annoyance.  He'd spent a week stalking his prey and now she appeared.
Her eyes did a tour of his features as she passed judgement on him.  He had a good idea of what she was seeing.  He was big by anyone's standards, whether it be heaven, hell or earth.  Her gaze moved up his leather-clad legs and up his body taking in his big tattoo covered arms before moving up to his face.  Her thought popped into his head *beautiful* and she turned away in embarrassment at her uncontrolled thought.  He ignored it as angels thought everything `beautiful', although some of his female prey had tried to seduce him away from his kill.
Gathering her composure around her like a cloak she walked passed him to stand between him and his prey.  He caught her scent as she passed a combination of rose, jasmine, lily of the valley and another scent that even his trained abilities couldn't distinguish.  He sniffed the air trying to catch the smell again.  She knelt down by the young man and talked to him softly.  She pulled the man to his feet and Soul Chaser moved forward, annoyed at how things were going again.
"He's mine!"
"No he's not.  God has got other plans for this one."
"Why would He want that vile soul?  He deserves to go to hell for what he's done."
"I thought Soul Chaser's didn't judge?  Anyway it's not for me to ask what His plans are.  I only know that he's not for you."
"Take him then.  But next time he rapes a woman I'll be waiting for him."  The man got up and ran for his life.  He watched the man run then turned his attention back to Angel.  He liked calling her that because he knew it annoyed her, not that she would ever admit it.  She was moving away getting ready to vanish again.  In one quick move he had a hold of her arm preventing her from leaving.  "I'm loosing patients with you Angel."  He brought his blade up and stroked it against the side of her throat in a gentle, but pointless, warning.  "You won this time… but take my advice and stay out of my way."  He growled into her face, his eyes locked with hers.  She didn't even flinch.
"You know I can't do that."
He gripped her throat in one of his massive hands and squeezed in a steady building pressure until her eyes widened slightly.  Seeing the first sign of fear from her he loosened his grip and stepped away from her.  Re-sheathing his blade he vanished in a flash of red fire.

Chapter Two
I breathed a sigh of relief as he left.  He'd actually been pretty compliant tonight.
"He's marked you again."
My hand flew to my throat, feeling the small area of raised skin where the blade had rested. I turned to face the angels behind me.  "You said he couldn't hurt me in any way and this is the second time he's managed to leave a mark on me."
"Your feelings for him are making you weak."
"Feelings?  For him?  I'm an angel, I can't feel things."
"When you're on earth and in human form you begin to feel emotions as they do.  That's why we don't come down here unless absolutely necessary.  And unfortunately the actions of the Soul Chaser's, especially that one, has made it increasingly necessary."
The Soul Chaser's had become a problem lately.  Their usual role was that of Hell's bloodhounds, tracking down souls that had escaped from Hell and taking them back where they belonged and for that we never interfered, if they were from Hell they deserved to be down there.
Lately though they had been taking souls before their time and the Soul Chaser that I had been assigned to stop was proving to be the most difficult.  The first time we had met I had been too late to stop him, his blade struck home, claiming another soul just as I reached him.  They always picked `evil' people to take but taking them early robbed them of their chance to change for the better.
He had sensed me behind him and had struck out instinctively with his weapon.  His blade had bit deep into my shoulder.  For the first time, since I had existed, I felt pain as the blade smouldered within my shoulder.  Pulling it out he brought it back up to strike again, this time aiming for my heart then he stopped realising what was standing before him.  He lowered his arm and re-sheathed the blade.
"You're too late Angel."
"I won't be next time."  I tried desperately not to show any pain as we starred at each other for the longest time.
There had been plenty of `next times' since then.  Some of his kills I had managed to stop but there had been plenty that I was unable to.
Since that first time he always called me Angel but I figured that he was just mocking me, although none of the other angels had reported their Soul Chasers doing anything like that to them.
"We've got another assignment for you until Soul Chaser returns."  They told me what they wanted me to do then vanished.

Chapter Three
"Have you brought me my souls?"
"I was stopped again."
"The same one?"
"Yes it was Angel."
"That one is becoming a nuisance.  Never mind, nothing we can do about them.  But don't fail me next time or you'll find yourself in one of the lower regions again."
Soul Chaser quickly made his exit before he changed his mind and threw him into a lower region just for the fun of it.
He could still remember the last time he had been sent there.  He had tracked one of the runaway souls to a large mansion where the runaway was been hidden by his brother.  He had made a deal with the soul to spare him if he could have his brother Nick.  He had nearly won, in fact he had got quite a few souls that night, but Nick had managed to shoot him with a piece of his own blade.
That was the first time he had felt pain.  He had felt it again when he had been thrown into the lower regions for nearly a year.  Now he was hell bent, no pun intended, on never feeling pain again, only inflicting it.
He walked along the dank twisting corridors.  He had got a few `off days' until he was due to go back to the mortal world.  He snarled at the thought of that putrid place.  As he walked along he blocked out the screams and moans of the damned, normally it amused him to listen to them beg but he was distracted at the moment.
He found his mind returned to his Angel and he remembered the scent of her.  He tried once again to place the last part of her scent.  It was strange, all the other angels he had met had no scent.  It was plaguing his mind so much he decided to see if he could find her again.  He concentrated his mind and returned to the mortal world.  Blocking out the putrid stenches of fumes and humanity around him he focussed in on her scent.  It was slightly different, he could smell rose, jasmine and lily of the valley but the fourth part was missing this time.  But she was still here somewhere.
He focussed his mind on her and locked in on her position.  She was in a hospital near by comforting the sick and dying. He moved closer.
Crouching down on the roof of the hospital he focussed all his senses on her.  His eyes flashed red and he could see her with his enhanced vision, which gave everything he saw a blue tinge.  She walked around the hospital talking to the people and offering them comfort with little more than a touch of her hand.
She walked into the maternity ward and started soothing the restless babies back to sleep.  His lip curled up in disgust at the thought of the babies.  He wasn't fond of any part of humanity at the best of time, they were just so much cattle to him, but their young was the worse part of it all so helpless and useless.
He concentrated on Angel again.  He was still puzzled as to why she smelt different.

Chapter Four
I'd come to the maternity ward for a little piece and quiet.  Been around so many sick people, and knowing that for a lot of them I could do nothing, was very draining.  I'd also been in human form for quite a long time now and just like a human I was beginning to feel tired.  I picked up one of the babies and soothed it back to sleep.  Placing it back in its crib I moved onto the next.
My heart started pounding in my chest, making me gasp in shock.  A sudden feeling of been hunted washed over me.  Followed by a sense of hopelessness.  I just wanted to give in, knowing that there was no escape for me.  There was a Soul Chaser near by and he was coming for me.  I clutched the baby closer and sucked in a few deep breaths to calm myself down.  I was in no danger from a Soul Chaser, but the babies were.
I turned slowly around waiting for him to make his move.  A flash of red appeared before me and I watched him materialise in the room.  It was the same one as before. Seven foot of lean muscle encased in black leather.  Long dark auburn hair tied back from his face, close trimmed goatee beard, tattoo covered arms and what appeared to be light coloured tattoos over his eyes.  I started to feel very strange while looking at him.
"Wh-what are you doing here?"  He didn't answer just started stalking forward those long legs eating up the distance.
Her scent had changed once again and he felt himself drawn to her position.  As he moved forward her scent shifted again and he could smell fear but not for herself, after all what did an angel have to fear?
"I won't let you hurt them."
He stopped, puzzled at her words.  The baby in her arms let out a little cry as she tightened her arms on it.  He realised that she thought he had come for them.  He drew his weapon and hung it threateningly over one of the cribs watching her eyes widen with fear.  She was the one usually in control of their encounters and it was nice to see her floundering.  But he needed to know what was drawing him to her scent.
"Which one shall I take Angel?  This one?  Maybe this one?  I know I'll take all of them."
"Please… no."
"What will you give me?"
"What?"
"What will you give me in exchange for their lives?"  He stroked a hand over his beard while he looked at her.  She was really struggling, her composure shot to pieces at been the one to have her job interrupted.  Now he just had to keep her off balance.  He waved his weapon over a crib.
"Anything!"
"What was that?"
"I'll give you anything you want."
Her head was bent low as she whispered what he had wanted to hear.  "Put the baby in its crib and meet me on the roof.  Don't try anything or I'll take every soul in this building and then come looking for you."  With a flash of red he left.

Chapter Five
Within a minute she appeared before him on the roof.  Her eyes downcast and her shoulders slightly hunched.  He sniffed the air but still couldn't catch that elusive scent.
"What do you want of me?"
"Don't move."
"What?"
"Just stand still for me."
He walked over to her and bent his head down.  He ran his nose up the side of her neck and started taking in her scent.
I shivered as his beard tickled along my throat.  As he made no move to hurt me I started to relax slightly.  His hair wrapped around my face as it stirred in the breeze and I breathed in the musky scent of his body.  His nose nuzzled against my earlobe and I could hear him breathing in deeply through his nose.  He was smelling me?  I was puzzled but he wasn't hurting me in any way so I didn't stop him.
He moved up over my hair and I found my nose buried against the bare flesh of his chest.  As my nose brushed against the light dusting of hair on his chest a groan escaped my lips.  He drew away from me slightly.
He could smell it again.  The scent of fear had left when he had made no move to harm her and as she had started to relax.  The smell wasn't coming from her hair, although it did smell nice.  He picked it up even stronger when he had felt her nose pressing against his chest.  He was starting to get an idea but wanted to test his theory.
The sudden wet press of his tongue against my neck had me jumping slightly in shock.  He kept licking his way up and down the side of my neck with broad sweeps of his tongue.  It wasn't an unpleasant sensation so I settled down again.  His teeth nipped on the lobe of my ear.  Quickly followed by the sucking of his mouth.  Another groan escaped my lips at the sensation.
What was happening to me?  Why wasn't I crying out for help or fighting him?  His lips touched mine but not in the usual kiss of friendship I was used to.  His tongue forced it's way into my mouth.  My eyes opened in surprise, I hadn't even noticed when they had closed, then drifted shut again as I was overcome by sensation.
His tongue explored the interior of my mouth, running over my teeth, the roof of my mouth, cheeks then stroking against my tongue.  He teased it into playing with his own then sucked it into the hot cavern of his mouth.
I could feel my pulse racing through my body.  My heart beating against my breast.  An answering pulse throbbed between my legs.  At the feel of his hand against my breast I pulled away from him in shock.  I shouldn't be feeling things like this for my enemy.
He grabbed my hand and pressed it against the bulge in his trousers.  My hand flexed involuntarily and he groaned and he flexed his hips, pushing himself deeper against my captive hand.  I jerked away again but he kept following.  His hands grabbed my hips and pulled me back against his body.  His lips captured mine again as he moved his hips, pushing himself against my stomach in a captivating rhythm.
I pulled my mouth away from his and buried my face into his chest.  His hips were still moving against me.  The bulge in his trousers pressed hard against my stomach, making me feel all weak and needy.  But needy for what?  I was so confused.
"Please… you have to stop."
He moved his hips in a slow grinding circular motion that made both of us groan.
He knew for certain now what he had smelt.  It was desire, she wanted him, needed him and she didn't even know it.
He turned her around and pulled her back against his body.  His hips thrusting against her rear in a gentle pumping motion.  One of his hands wandered up her body and cupped her breasts through her dress, plucking gently at her nipples until they hardened under his touch.  His other hand moved down, rubbing the gentle swell of her stomach, pushing her gently back against his body.  His hand moved down even further and he cupped her womanhood in the palm of his hand.  The thrusts of his body rocked her against his hand, forcing her to pleasure herself against his palm.  Her own hands made a brief attempt to remove his but as he thrust against her he bit gently against the side of her neck and she went limp in his arms, letting him have complete control of her body.
The breath was leaving her body in rasping pants.  Her hands moved again, one moved up and cupped the back of his head, running through the thick waves of his hair.  The other hand reached back and held onto his thrusting hips, fingertips digging into his flesh urging him on.
"Please."
At her whispered plea he pressed his fingers directly against her and pulled her back firmly against his body as she shattered in his arms.  He sat down and cradled her body in his arms until her climax subsided.  She lay against him, drifting asleep in her enemy's arms with aftershocks running through her body.  He hadn't come yet but he didn't want to relieve himself or take advantage of her sleeping body.  If he had his way there would be plenty of other opportunities for him to make her his.

Chapter Six
Some distance away at the Luna Foundation five people were deep in conversation.  They were sitting in the control room banks of computer monitors were showing city maps all around the world.  There were two men; Derek and Nick, and three women; Alex, Rachel and Kristen in the room.  Derek pointed to the monitors.
"We've had reports from the other Legacy houses about a worrying spate of murders taking place."
"There's always murders." Interrupted Nick.
"These ones all appear to be done by the same person or people all working together."
Nick sat forward and looked at the maps.  "It can't be the same person.  There's two there done on the same night; one in New York and the other in London and when you take the time difference into account, they were done at the same time."
"What's this got to do with us Derek?"  Rachel looked at him knowing that there had to be more to this for him to call them all together at the same time.
"Alex, bring up the picture I scanned in earlier."
Alex and Nick both gasped in shock when they saw the drawing of the man.
"A couple of nights ago a young man was attacked but he managed to get away.  He went to the police and gave this sketch to them along with a story they dismissed as pure fantasy.  The next day he went back to them and told them that he had been lying.  I believe that you two have met this man before?"
"Soul Chaser."  They recounted their run in with him to the others.  "But we killed him, shot him with his own blade."
"Maybe it didn't fully work because it was only the tip or maybe you can't kill something that isn't alive."
"Could there be different ones?  Maybe they all look the same."
"Pull up the other pictures would you Alex."  Five other pictures appeared on the monitors, all of them different.  "These are sketches sent by the other houses of previous Soul Chaser activities from over the years.  It appears that they all have their own territories to cover."
"Let me guess." Snarled Nick "He's in San Francisco."
Derek nodded.

Chapter Seven
Soul Chaser could feel Angel start to stir against him as she awoke.  She stiffened slightly against his body but didn't move.
"I know you're awake Angel."
She jumped slightly and tried to move away from him.  With effortless ease he held her in place until her struggles subsided.  She may have more strength than a human but he had more than her.
"Please let me go."
"No.  I think not."  He couldn't have her running away just yet.  Not until he had a small sign of submission from her otherwise she would be full of righteous indignation the next time they met.  Far better to have her feel shame for HER actions.
He turned her around until she was straddled over his thighs.  He deliberately positioned her so that she wouldn't feel his erection unless she moved.
"Kiss me."  She didn't move.  "You know you want to, but if it makes you feel any better think about the babies."  She looked uncertain.  "Come on Angel, just a quick kiss then you can go."
I leant forward, bracing my hands against his chest and pressed my lips against his in a chaste kiss.  At least that was how it started.  At the feel of his warm lips under mine I became lost in the sensation.  His beard and moustache tickled slightly.  My hands left his chest and cupped his broad face.  My fingertips played with his sideburns.
He kept his hands at his sides, letting her take control.  At the first innocent brush of her tongue against his lips he let his lips part slightly and allowed her entry.
I ran my tongue over his lips then let my tongue enter his mouth, running it over the smooth surface of his teeth and deeper.  I duelled with his tongue, then as he had me I sucked his tongue into my mouth and sucked on it.
I moved further forward in his lap so that I could increase the depth of our kiss and also to answer an ache in my lower body.  We both groaned as I pressed against his erection.  His hands moved onto my hips and pulled me further into him then they stilled again and lay resting on my hips.  It had felt so good when he had pulled us closer together.  I moved against him and increased the contact between us, moving by instinct alone.
Soul Chaser was fighting hard not to give in and take her.  She moved again and he groaned into her mouth.  He moved his hands again and guided hers down to his chest needing to feel her touch.
I ran my hands over the exposed flesh of his chest, slipping under the leather of his coat to touch even more of him.  His chest hair was soft under my palms.  It wasn't enough.  I needed more.  I started pushing at his coat in an attempt to push it off his shoulders.  I became frantic when I couldn't get it off.
His hands stilled mine then they went to work of the laces holding his coat closed.  Once the laces were undone I ran my hands across his chest, tracing the hair over his upper chest.  My hands drifted lower over his firm stomach feeling the muscles twitch under my fingers.
"Open your dress."
It was the first time he had spoken since I had kissed him.  It brought me back to reality slightly.  I looked around frantically as I fought against my feelings.  Wanting to do as he asked yet knowing that I shouldn't.  His hands cupped my face and made me meet his eyes.  I got lost in the green depths.
"It's alright, I won't take it any further than that, but I need to touch you.  Just for a little while."
His hands drifted down and started unbuttoning her dress.  His eyes stayed locked with hers, judging her reaction to what he was doing.  He parted the edges of her dress and looked down at her.  He sucked in a deep breath at the beauty of her.  His fingertips brushed gently across the firm flesh of her breasts.
He watched his own hands moving over her flesh, coming close but never touching her nipples.  She moaned slightly every time his fingers came close to them then moved away.  She rested her hands on his forearms and started stroking his arms.  He looked at her, head thrown back and eyes tight shut lost in the feelings he was arousing in her.  Although it killed him at admit it he had to stop before he gave into his own desires.  But there was one last thing he had to do.
Bending forward he buried his head between her breasts and took in the scent of her aroused body.  Turning his head he pressed a light kiss directly on the tip of each nipple then he pulled back and refastened her dress.

Chapter Eight
I watched his hands as they refastened my dress.  My body and my mind were fighting each other for control.  My mind was telling me to run and never look back while my body wanted Soul Chaser.  His hands brushed the flesh of my throat as he finished his task.  Gentle fingers brushed my face as he tried to draw my attention back to him.  I closed my eyes and savoured his touch.
"Don't shut me out Angel.  You wanted this as much as I did."
*But I want more.*
He heard the thought but didn't let on.
I took one of his hands in mine and inspected it closely.  My fingers moved over the palm feeling how soft his skin is.  Long agile fingers, the pads slightly rough, rounded off with perfectly cut nails.  I rested my palm over his to compare sizes.  So much bigger than my own.  Capable of giving out so much pain, I remembered his touch, but also so much pleasure.  His fingers folded over my own as he lifted my hand to his lips.  He brushed his lips over the back of my hand and I started to drown in the green depths of his eyes.
Leaning forward I kissed him gently on the lips.  It felt as though my heart was going to burst with what I was feeling for this man.  He broke the kiss and pulled me down until my head was resting against his chest.
"Meet with me tomorrow."
"I shouldn't."
"But do you want to?"
"Yes."
He stood up and placed Angel back on her feet, holding he up until her legs were steady enough to support her.  "I've got to go now but I'll meet you here tomorrow."  He tilted her face up.  "Don't make me come looking for you."  With one last brush of his lips he left.
I stood for a while after he left feeling very confused about my own feelings.  My main confusion was the fact that I was feeling anything for him at all.
I called upon the other angels for help hoping that they would be able to clear it up for me.
I tried to tell them what had happened and what I had felt but I was a little embarrassed.  They didn't seem to be very interested, more interested about how my assignment at the hospital was going.
"Please you've got to take me off the Soul Chaser assignment."
"No."
"No?"
"You're having to much success with him to stop now."
Success?  It felt like he was the one having all the success.  I tried again to make them change their minds.
"He has reached his decision on this matter.  You will stay on the case.  Just follow your heart."

Chapter Nine
Soul Chaser sat further back into the shadows and let the darkness settle around him.  Even without using his power to `see' Angel he could see the confusion in her eyes all the way across the street to the building she was standing on.  It was a confusion he was feeling himself.  He drew his blade and traced random patterns in the ground while he thought.
Strangely it hadn't really occurred to him that she would call on her fellow angels for advice.  Probably because he intended to keep her a secret.  He should have realised that she would though, angels always liked to keep things truthful.  Using his power he had listened in on the conversation, been careful not to give himself away.  When she'd begged to be taken off the case he'd felt like taking her and proving that what she really wanted was him.  When they'd refused he'd felt a brief moment of joy before suspicion had taken over.  Were they using her to get to him?  It wasn't a very `heavenly' thing to do but they were after all at war.
Obviously confused by what had just happened Angel stayed on the roof long after the other angels had left.  Soul Chaser watched as she paced around talking to herself.  Even though he was curious he didn't listen in, content for now to just watch and supremely confident that he would see her the next night and very sure that she would be his.  He frowned as his body tightened at the thought.  What was it about her that made him want to loose control?  He'd never felt this way about anyone in his existence as a soul chaser.  Why now?  Why her?
Getting nowhere with my `talk' I stopped pacing and looked out over the city.  But all I could see was his eyes.  A breeze picked up, swirling my dress around my body.  All I could feel was Chaser's hands caressing my body.  Wrapping my arms around my body I stepped back away from the breeze and tried to regain some control on my wayward thoughts.
I had to think of a way out of meeting with him again.  My very soul depended on it.  But what of the people in the hospital?  I flushed in shame when I realised that once Chaser had touched me I'd forgotten all about them.  If I didn't show would he take it out on them?  Could I risk it?
Feeling trapped I turned to the only person I could.  Sinking to my knees I prayed.  Or at least I tried to.  Something or someone was blocking me.  Was it my own guilt or something else?
Closing my eyes I attempted to get back to heaven but even that was denied me.  I had nowhere left to go and no one to turn to.  With a strangled cry of despair I ran back into the hospital.  Back to all I had left, my job.
Watching her leave he fought against the desire to follow her and offer her whatever comfort a demon from Hell could.  Looking down he saw what he'd been absentmindedly doodling with his blade.  With a snarl he raised his blade ready to strike out what he'd done.  Shaking his head he sighed and re-sheathed his blade.  He couldn't do it.  His fingers traced over the picture of Angel that he'd drawn.  Her sweet face raised for his kiss.
Tomorrow.  Tomorrow he'd either take her or destroy her.  Tracing his fingers over the picture one last time, lingering longer than necessary over the curve of the lips, he stood and went back to Hell.

Chapter Ten
Crouching low behind a ventilation duct Soul Chaser watched as Angel appeared on the roof.  Was it his imagination or was the flash of white light a little less brighter than usual?  Looking around she moved slowly to the edge of the roof and looked down.
With the usual flash of red he appeared behind her.  Apart from her grip tightening on the low wall and the stiffening of her shoulders she gave nothing away.  He smiled, wondering what game she was playing.
He was there.  I knew he was by the pounding of my heart as my body screamed for me to run.  Fingers digging into the wall I fought the urge knowing that I didn't want to run away from him.  I wanted to run straight into his arms.  I wanted to feel all that I had the night before and I wanted desperately to feel more.
He moved towards her across the rooftop.  Slowly closing the gap between them.  Every tread of his boots had her body twitching slightly in anticipation and her hands tightening on the wall.
"Look at me Angel."
"No."  He was standing so close I could feel the brush of his leather jacket with every breath he took.  "I want you to leave me alone."  I gasped as he brushed my hair back, fingers trailing down my neck.
"No you don't."  He moved even closer and pressed the full length of his body against her.  Her body sagged as her knees gave way.  Wrapping an arm around her waist he held her still as he brushed his hips against hers.  As he caressed the gentle curve of her throat with his lips the wall shattered under her hands.  Concrete fell as dust to the streets bellow.
*Take me.  Please just take me!*
He knew her game then.  She wanted him but she wanted him to take control so that she could hold onto her pride.  Well he wasn't going to play her game.  If she wanted him she'd have to tell him.
Releasing his hold on her body he stepped away.  "Well," he let out a sigh, "it's obvious you don't want me so I'll leave."  He kept moving back wondering who would be the first to snap.
*No!*
"Chaser?"  As I turned I saw his lips twitch at me calling him that but he didn't protest.  "Don't go."  One hand came up to stroke his beard while the other moved to rest atop his blade.  He stood there, seven foot of predator.  I should be letting him leave and counting my blessings but instead I was trying desperately to think of some way to make him stay.  Growing impatient he stepped back again.  "Wait… before you go, would you do something for me?"
Her head was bent low, fingers fidgeting with the front of her dress.  "What is it you want Angel?"  If she didn't give in soon he'd have to take the first step himself or he'd surly go mad with need.
*I want you.*
"Will you kiss me?"  I looked up to see what his response would be.  A gasp of surprise escaped me at how close he was to me.  So close that my breath stirred the hair on his chest exposed by the gaps in his jacket.  His scent rose around me stirring my senses.  His hand cupped my face, tilting it up as his lips came down.  My heart soared then dropped as his lips touched my forehead in a chaste kiss.
He could sense her disappointment as he took a step back.  "I'll go now."
"I didn't mean like that."
"Then what Angel?  What do you want?"
"I want you to kiss me-"  Not daring to meet his eyes and finding myself incapable of voicing what I wanted I touched my lips while begging him silently to kiss me.  He stepped forward again.  His sigh telling me that I was trying his patients.  My eyes were riveted to his mouth as his head dipped forward again.  His lips brushed mine but once again he quickly stepped back.
"Will that do?"
"No."
"No?"
"I want you to kiss me."
"I just did."
"No not like that."  I stepped closer to him and ran my hands over the firm wall of his chest.  The leather of his jacket was warm and subtle under my palms.  The tickle of his chest hair under my fingers was a delight.
"Then how do you want me to kiss you?"  Capturing her wandering hands in his he brought her attention back to him.  "How Angel?"
"I want you to kiss me how you did before.  I want you to touch me again and…"  I looked up into his eyes trying to read what he was feeling but failing.  "I want more… I want you."  His chest swelled under my hands as a devilish smile crossed his lips.
Pulling her close he leant down and gave her what she wanted.  What he wanted.  He nibbled gently then sucked deeply, devouring her as he felt himself drowning in her.  Chest heaving he pulled back.  Delighted to feel her breast heaving madly against his chest as she sucked in much needed air.  "See, all you had to do was ask."
Reaching up I cupped the back of his head and pulled him down.  "Chaser, shut up."  Pressing my lips to his I lost myself in the wonderful sensations once more.

Chapter Eleven
Angel's hands moved through his hair as she pressed herself urgently against his chest.  Groaning softly her hands moved to the front of his jacket, fingers delving between the gaps to the skin below.
Pulling away from his lips I looked up into his face as his chest heaved under my hands.  His eyes were dark with passion, a passion I could feel echoing through my body.  A smile curved the edges of his full sensual lips as my fingers traced over their softness.  We moved at the same time, lips meeting halfway.
Somewhere in the street below there was a squeal of tyres and the blast of a horn.  I drew back with a nervous laugh.
Chaser cursed whoever had almost ruined it for him.  Luckily her desire was running so high that he knew he would soon have her back.  All he needed was somewhere special away from distractions.  "Lets go somewhere else Angel.  Somewhere a little quieter and a lot more comfortable."
Pulling her close Chaser took her to the one place he could truly call his own.  His refuge against everything.  He wanted to know what she would think of it, but he was more than pleased when she had eyes only for him.
He stepped forward, swaggering with his need for her.  The urge to take her was gnawing at him.  Sucking in deep ragged breaths he gathered together his control.  He wanted this to be special for both of them.  He kissed her softly, her groan at the light contact music to his ears.  "Shh Angel, it's okay.  We've got all the time in the world.  And I want to savour every second."
*But does he have to drive me mad while doing it?*
"I'm driving us both mad."  To cover his slip he kissed her.  The brush of her tongue over his lips nearly shattered what was left of his control.
The breath was forced from my lungs as he yanked me against the hard wall of his chest.  His lips parted mine forcefully then were suddenly gone as he set me away from him again.
"Slowly… slowly."  He muttered desperately under his breath.
"I thought you wanted me?"
Cupping her face reassuringly he looked deep into her eyes.  "I want you, never doubt that."  Her pulse leapt under his fingers as he stroked his hands down her neck.  Stepping closer he thrilled to the feel of her breasts brushing against his chest.  Hands moving down her back he gently cupped her rear and brushed his hips against her as he teased her lips with his.
While we kissed I stroked my hands over his chest, back and anything else I could find.  His tongue swept over my parted lips and delved inside.  Need stabbed through me as my knees buckled.  His hands held me up and pulled me closer, his body thrusting against mine.  Working on his laces I parted his jacket to expose his chest.  Needing to see him I reluctantly pulled away from his lips and looked at the wide expanse of flesh before me.
Chaser watched Angel watching him.  She leant closer and pressed a kiss over his heart.  The sight of this Angel, his Angel, kissing his chest had desire streaking through his veins with lighting fast intensity.  Another feeling, tenderness and something else, swelled his heart as she looked into his eyes while her lips worked over him.  A shiver ran through him as she tickled his ribs and stomach with her nails.  The shiver had his flat male nipples growing hard.  Eyes widening in delight at the sight she stroked a nail over them.  Sighing softly she kissed the hard nubs then started sucking on them.
"Oh dear lord!"  He tunnelled his fingers though her hair.  Cupping the back of her head he held her to him.
Looking up I saw his head fall back as I bit down gently.  A deep growl reverberated through his chest as I moved onto the other and repeated my ministrations.  Pushing his jacket off his shoulders I dug my fingers into the hard muscles of his back and pulled him closer.
Feeling his legs shaking with the effort of holding himself up under her tender assault on his body he took the necessary steps back and sat down on the bed.  Loosing her grip her lips moved up kissing and sucking against his neck and ears as she crawled astride his lap.  With a sigh her head fell back as she settled herself directly over him.
His fingers moved over the front of her dress as he worked on the small buttons.  He growled softly in frustration as his fingers shook making the task impossible.  Her hands took over the task.
My whole body was shaking in anticipation.  A button popped off under my shaking fingers.  Looking into his eyes I laughed nervously.  His large hands gently stroked my face then moved down.  Gathering together two handfuls of my dress he calmly ripped my dress apart.  The quiet savagery of his actions gave me pause but the passion blazing in his eyes calmed my fears and had me wanting him all the more.

Chapter Twelve
He saw the brief flash of nervousness at his actions then her eyes filled once more with desire.  Keeping his eyes on hers, needing to see what he did to her, he brought his hands up to touch what he'd uncovered.
He cupped the smooth flesh, loving the way they fit his hands as though they were made for him and him alone.  Her hands moved to his forearms, tugging to make him move faster.
Resisting her and himself he slowly traced circles around her breasts, moving up over the gentle slopes then back down again.  Never once touching where they both wanted.  Eyes closed her head fell back.
Chaser allowed his eyes to drift down to watch what his hands were doing. His heart and body leapt at the sight. She was so beautiful.
He touched her nipples, eliciting a sigh from her lips.  He thrummed the hardened peaks with his thumbs, watching as they swelled further.  Her sighs and moans guided his movements.
He rolled the hard nubs gently between his fingers, lathering them with quick swipes of his tongue then blowing over them with his warm breath.
Angel's fingers tunnelled through his hair, tugging him forward.
Curious he let her guide him until she had him pressed against her breast, a nipple nudging urgently at his lips.  All he had to do was part his lips and he could taste her.
He did nothing.
"Please."
At her desperate sob he parted his lips and took her in.  She cried out in pleasure.  Moving from peak to peak he sucked.  First gently then with increasing strength.  He nibbled gently with his teeth, her cries turning swiftly from pain to pleasure.
Lowering his hands he lightly grasped her hip.  With a sharp tug he pulled her forward as he rammed his hips upwards.
With a scream she shattered in his arms.  Her back bowing sharply back before she sank against his body.  Running his hands over her back he could feel the quivers running through her body.

Chapter Thirteen
Quickly stripping off the rest of her clothes he laid her back on the centre of the bed.  She whimpered at the loss of his body when he moved back.
Chaser stared at her.  His eyes eating up every detail of his beautiful Angel.  Though at the moment she looked more like a fallen angel.  Golden eyes sleepy yet filled with longing as she looked at him.  Her hair, rumpled from his fingers, lay spread about her.  Looking at her body had him wanting to bury himself within and never let go.
Moving swiftly he removed his boots, kicking them aside without care.  Angel's eyes hungrily followed his hands as they dropped to the laces holding his trousers closed.
Raising myself up onto my elbows I watched as his hands moved it his laces.  Fingers shaking slightly as he undid the laces.  His fingers paused and I looked up into his smiling eyes.  Knowing exactly what he was doing to me he gave a wicked little grin.
Chaser moved slowly, loving the way her body responded to his every move.  Hooking his fingers into his trousers he slowly peeled them down and off his legs.  Her gasp was music to his ears.
Magnificent.  There was no other word to describe him and even that didn't do him justice.  Every inch of him was sheer perfection.  My eyes flew over him, trying to take in as much as possible.  Broad shoulders, wide chest, narrow waist and hips, flat stomach, hard muscular thighs, even his feet were perfect.
His body hardened further as her eyes caressed him.  Her eyes dropped to his manhood, running over his length in a touch that was almost physical.  She looked shocked and almost afraid.  Then her eyes darkened with passion, eyelids drooping slightly.  Breathing becoming shallow her lips parting, tongue darting out to lick appreciatively over her lips.  He staggered under the weight of her desire.  His own rising in response.
He moved towards the bed, each step a swagger.  Angel rose to her knees as he crawled onto the bed and stalked his way towards her.  He pushed her back, covering her body with his own.  She pulled him down, welcoming his full weight as she parted her legs to accommodate him.
Her nails dug sharply into his back as she arched up under him.  Her breasts brushing against his chest.
He rolled to his side, legs twinned with hers.  Hand on hip he pushed her flat as she tried to follow his body.  "No, not yet."  She let out a sob, hands reaching for his body.
Capturing a hand he kissed her wrist feeling her pulse leap under his lips.  She whimpered as he moved up her arm, jumping slightly as he nibbled the crook of her elbow.  The scrape of his teeth against her collarbone had her quaking.
Dipping his head he ravished her breasts once more.  Smiling as her fingers delved into his hair again.  Arching her back she pulled his head closer to her breasts.  Whimpering, groaning, sighing, shuddering.
He stroked her hips and thighs.  Fingers trailing over her stomach he dipped into the damp curls below, intending to make her fly apart again.
"No!"  I gripped his wrist and pulled on him.  His eyes showed his shock then amusement as I tried to stop him reaching his goal.

Chapter Fourteen
He could break her hold easily and take what he wanted but he allowed her to hold him off.  Curious as to what she had planned.  He wouldn't, couldn't, wait much longer though.  He wanted her.  And he planned on having her until he was thoroughly satisfied.
"I want you Chaser…"  Feeling that he was no longer resisting my hold I released his hand.  "I want to touch you…"  I traced the line of hair down his chest, following the path down over his stomach.  "I want to taste you…"  Licking my way up his throat I sucked the skin of his neck just below and behind his ear.  "But more than that I need you… inside me… now."
His heart thumped dangerously at her words and actions then threatened to leap from his chest as she wrapped her small hand around his erection.  He grabbed her hand intending to pull her away but then she started moving her hand up and down his length.  With a groan he wrapped his hand around hers and showed her what rhythm gave him the greatest pleasure.
I watched my hand move not quite believing what I was doing.  He was so thick that I couldn't close my finger around him.  So long that even both hands couldn't cover him.
Sweat broke out over his body as he arched his back.  Hips moving he pumped himself into her hand.  Head thrashing against the pillows he muttered under his breath.
I wanted to taste him.  Dipping my head I licked lightly at the head to scoop up the drop of moisture waiting there.  The taste was so glorious I wanted more.
Chaser looked down at Angel.  He'd never expected to feel pleasure such as this and it was driving him mad.  The sight of her bent over him, her hair brushing against his thighs.  The touch of her hands on his thighs and erection.  The touch of her mouth and tongue.  All of it.  Driving him mad.
Every touch and taste just made me want more.  Bracing my hands on his hard muscular thighs I took him slowly into my mouth.  Teasing the hard length with my teeth and tongue.  His harsh shout music to my ears as I worked his length down my throat.
His hands tore at the sheets as he felt her throat massaging his length.  With a cry he buried his hands in her hair and pulled her from his body and flipped her onto her back.
His body rose over mine.  Chest heaving with every breath.  "Now?"
Positioning himself he gave a slight smirk.  "Now."

Chapter Fifteen
He entered her slowly.  Allowing her body time to adjust to him even as he wanted to move quicker.  She was so tight, her sheath gripping his buried length in rippling waves.
Eyes closed her head moved fitfully from side to side as she whimpered softly in need.  Chaser stroked her face, bringing her attention back to him.  He brushed his mouth over hers in a feather light brush of lips.  "I want you to watch me."
Chaser started moving as I looked up into his beautiful green eyes.  His slow movements brought me quickly back up to my previous height.  His arms quivered in effort as he held himself above me, straining to keep control.
He moved quicker, making her gasp as he pushed them both slightly higher.  Angling his body he quickened his pace, pushing her to the limit then slowing down again.  Letting his weight rest against her he rocked with quick, short strokes while kissing her at the same pace.
*He's killing me!*
Her fingers roamed down his back, digging deep to urge him on.  Grabbing her hands he pinned them above her head and he changed the pace of his thrusts again.  Long and deep was his new rhythm.
Once more to the edge then slowing down.
It was beautiful.  It was agony.  It was torture.  I wanted it to last forever but was equally desperate for him to take it to the next level.  I wanted to soar again.
With an animal like growl she lifted her head and sank her teeth into the crook of his neck.  He jumped in surprise then groaned in delight as she sucked gently on the wound.  Her tongue lathing the area as she tasted the saltiness of his skin.  The gentle suction of her mouth bringing the blood to the surface and his desire rocketing higher.
He might have been able to resist but, wiggling her hands free, Angel grasped his hips and arched hers up to meet his.
Loosing control he moved quicker and deeper his body striving for satisfaction.  She followed him willingly.  Body arching up to meet each and every one of his thrusts.
Before my eyes closed I saw his eyes flash with a blaze of emerald fire.
Chaser roared with his release.  The intense pleasure almost more than he could stand.  He'd found heaven then shot straight through to a place even higher and sweeter.
He felt Angel shatter with him, screaming in release as her body clamped down hard on his.
Body shaking he collapsed against her.  Allowing himself a moment to rest, he rolled to his side, taking her with him.  He kept their bodies joined as they slowly drifted down from their high.
Tucking my head against his chest I let the beat of his heart and the strokes of his hands against my back lulled me into a peaceful slumber.
Brushing a stray strand of hair back from her sweat dampened forehead Chaser smiled sleepily as he looked down at his sleeping Angel.  Sighing in her sleep she pressed a kiss over his heart and snuggled even closer.
A angel and a demon finding peace together?  He smiled at the thought, knowing in his heart, as corrupt and black as it was, that it was true.  He'd found peace.  With a smile fixed on his face he followed her into sleep.

Chapter Sixteen
Hours passed before he awoke, how many he didn't know.  Angel was still asleep at his side and they were still joined together as one.  He smiled as he remembered her total surrender to him.  Finally she was his again.  Again?  He stilled at the thought.  When had she been his?
He guided her away from him and looked into her face, searching for he knew not what.  As if sensing his eyes on her she stirred from her sleep.
Stretching sleepily I tried to snuggle back against his warm body.  I stroked the strong column of his throat.  Fingers trailing over his collarbones I sighed with delight as I felt the tickle of his chest hair against my palms.
His lack of action finally drew my attention back to him.  The muscles in his arms were like hard marble under my hands as suddenly pushed and held me back.  I twisted in his hands but his grip on my arms was unbreakable.  Looking into his eyes I stopped trying to escape.  "Chaser?"
"I know you from somewhere."
"Are you alright?"  I touched his face trying to draw him back to me.  Gasping as one hand twisted my wrist while the other grabbed my jaw.
"This form you wear.  Is it you or did they pick it for you?"
"You're hurting me."  His grip tightened bringing tears to my eyes.  "No one picked it for me.  I am as you see me."
Seeing her tears he loosened his grip.  He lived to see the terror on the face of his prey but he didn't want to see in on Angel's face.  With her he wanted to see something else.  He wanted to see love.  The word twisted his gut but he couldn't deny what he wanted.
"I'm sorry Angel… you just reminded me of someone."
"And you thought they were using me to get to you?"
"Yes."
"The only person using me is you Chaser."  His hands stilled my attempts to leave the bed.  I beat futilely on the hard wall of his chest as he pinned me down to the bed.  Hand grabbing mine he pinned them above my head.
Her body went limp under his as she surrendered to his greater strength.  "Don't fool yourself Angel.  What we've got works both ways.  If I'm using you then you're sure as hell using me."  She wiggled slightly in protest then stilled again.  "You want me as much as I want you."
His lips nuzzled the side of my neck sending shivers of delight racing through my body.  Chaser settled himself fully into the cradle of my thighs once more as I surrendered to the delights that only he could show me.  "God help me I want you."

Chapter Seventeen
Wearily I lifted my head from its pillow, Chaser's chest, and looked into his eyes.  Remembering all the things we had done to each other I blushed.  I felt that maybe I should feel ashamed at my actions but I couldn't.  All I wanted was to feel those things again.  Make him cry out my name again and make him shudder with need.
Feeling suddenly shy under his intense gaze I wrapped a sheet around my body and climbed from the bed.  Stretching my head back to easy out the kinks I looked up at the ceiling, only I couldn't see one.  "Where are we?"
The room was simply but comfortably furnished.  The huge canopied bed dominated the room but by no means filled it.  A log fire split the room without the need for wall.  A fur rug lay in front of it, so thick that my feet vanished into the softness.  A leather couch, long enough that even he could stretch out comfortably.  Bookcases stacked with huge leather bound tomes graced another wall.  There was a desk, so solid that it looked as though it would need ten men to move it, standing to the side of a floor to ceiling black velvet curtain.
Turning slowly I tried but failed to find any doors.  Pushing aside a feeling of been trapped I looked around the rest of the room.  It was definitely a mans room but I felt comfortable.
He looked around, trying to see it through the eyes of an angel.  "Do you like it?"  For some reason it felt vitally important that she did.
"It's…"  I turned and my voice failed as I saw him.  He was standing behind me wearing only his leather trousers, his skin shining in the soft light.  "Beautiful."  Wrenching my gaze away I turned my back to him again.  "Where are we?"
"It's difficult to explain."  Moving closer he reached out to touch her shoulder but she moved quickly out of reach.  This prey needed the soft and gentle approach.  She needed to be persuaded that she wanted to be with him.  "Come, let me show you."
The velvet curtains parted with a wave of his hands to reveal a wide balcony and the sky beyond.  Her hand moved slowly into his as he held out his hand palm up.  Hand closing on her much smaller one he captured her gently in his grasp and led her out onto the balcony.
I was intensely aware of Chaser as he stood at my back.  Brushing his hands over my shoulders he brushed my hair to the side and leant closer.
"Do you like it?"
"Yes."  I leant back against his chest as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
"I meant the view."  He chuckled, knowing full well the effect he was having on her, as he was feeling the same.
"So did I."  Heat crept up from my feet as I lied.  Grabbing desperately for my failing control I looked out at the view.  "Oh…"
Chaser's eyes swept out over the view then quickly fell back to Angel.  He wanted to see how she reacted to it all.
As he watched as her eyes went wide in delight and turned silver.  It wasn't until then he realised how much her eyes changed colour.  Normally they were dark brown but he'd seen then turn golden and now silver.  How many more colours would he see?
Captivated by what I was seeing I leant over the wall and looked down.  Far below swirled clouds of red.  Lightening flashing angrily at a steady rate.  The clouds parted and I stepped back in shock at what I saw.  Something that no angel should ever have to see.  Hell.
Above us were clouds of shining white.  They towered so high they looked more like snow capped mountains.  They parted slightly and revealed a tantalising glimpse of my home.  Heaven.  The sight so beautiful that tears sprang to my eyes.
The clouds above and below spread as far as the eye could see.  On the horizon they seemed to touch and merge in a blaze of pink, red and white.  Something caught my eye.  Specks of black on the horizon.  "What's that?"
Chaser looked to where she was pointing.  "That could be dragons or phoenixes, maybe both.  If you look a little to the right you can just make out a herd of unicorns and Pegasus."  He smiled to himself as her jaw dropped in shock.
"But they don't exist."
"They used to once and here they still do.  Look some are coming closer."
Two of the specks separated from the others and flew closer.  I watched in amazement as a dragon and a phoenix flew overhead, the huge creatures playing a strange game of tag with each other.  Turning to watch I got my first look at the building or rather the lack of building.  All I could see was the balcony and the window, nothing else.
"You'll get used to it."
"I'll take your word for it."
"No, you will get used to it."  He said it slowly making sure that she understood that he intended to continue their relationship.

Chapter Eighteen
I couldn't believe what I was hearing but looking into his eyes I could see he was far from over with me.  A thrill of fear and delight raced through my body.  "They won't allow this to continue."
He stalked towards her, amused when she moved backwards away from him her eyes turning brown again.  He scented the air, easily picking up the smell of her desire for him.  "I don't care what they want… what do you want?"
"I-I…"
"Don't lie to me Angel.  Just tell me what you want."  He hooked the front of her sheet.  "Do you want to carry on as if nothing happened?  Or do you want to see where this leads?"  He drew her close as he talked.
"I…"
Hooking her chin he tilted up her face.  "Tell me Angel."
"I don't want this to end."  I felt as though I'd taken a step off a cliff with my eyes closed.  The unknown rushing up to meet me.  His smirk of triumph did nothing to assuage the feeling.  "I want you… but I won't let anything interfere with my job."
"I didn't think it would Angel."  If she was hoping to upset him into leaving her she had another thing coming.  "Just so long as you understand that it works both ways.  You stay away from my job and I'll stay away from yours."
"Well strictly speaking I can't do that.  Stopping you is my job."
"Do you like it here?"
The sudden change in the conversation had me puzzled.  "Yes."  I frowned at him in suspicion as he gave a wicked smile.
He loved the way he could confuse her just with a smile.  With a finger he eased the frown from between her dark brown eyes.  "This can be our place then.  While we're here no one can get to us so we'll be completely safe.  We'll just have one rule… no talking shop.  Apart from that we can do whatever we want.  Deal?"
"Whatever we want?"  At Chaser's nod I stepped back I let the sheet slip from my grasp and drift to the floor to pool at my feet.  "Deal."

Chapter Nineteen
He was close.  I could feel him.  That feeling of been hunted that thrilled now more than it scared.  The thump of blood through my veins, knowing that he was close.  The flash of red and the whoosh of noise as he appeared behind me.
"So what exactly is your job here then?"
Ignoring him as much as possible I placed the now sleeping baby back in its crib before turning to face him.  "I thought you weren't going to interfere with my job?"
"I'm not."  Trying his best to ignore the crying babies Chaser stalked towards her.  "I just wanted to see what you were doing."  Ever since they'd parted company only a matter of hours before he'd been consumed with thoughts of her.  Finally he'd given in too temptation.
I let Chaser back me up across the room until my back met with a wall.  His front brushing mine causing shivers of delight to race up and down my spine.  Chaser's hand came up, picking up a strand of hair he tucked it behind my ear.
Chaser smiled softly as Angel captured his hand and pressed a kiss to the palm.  The sound of the babies crying was starting to break through.  "Are you finished here?"
"What's wrong?"  His brow was creased with a frown and there was a hint of disdain in his voice.  A baby let out a particularly piercing scream and Chaser winced slightly.  Realising what was wrong I held back a smile.  "You don't care for the much do you?"  He growled deep and low.
"Are you finished?"
"Not yet…  I'll meet you somewhere else later if you want?"
"No that's okay."  Not wanting to appear weak in front of her he tried to hold back his revulsion for the babies that surrounded him.  Chaser backed his way across the room averting his gaze from the cribs.
Seeing how nervous he was I turned away to let him get his composure back.  It was the innocence of the babies that was getting to him.  That and the fact that he hated humans.  Join the two together and you had hell for a demon.
"Angel!"
I quickly spun around at what could only be described as panic in his voice.  "What's wrong?"  I rushed to his side wondering if there was something wrong with the baby whose crib his hand was in.
"It won't let go."  Chaser tried to pull his hand away but found that the baby had no intention of letting go.
"Aw, she likes you."  The baby latched onto one of Chaser's fingers and with surprising strength pulled Chaser's finger into her mouth and started sucking.
"Angel, please."  He was trying, for her sake, not to give in and use his blade.
"Sorry."  He was starting to get angry with the situation.  I picked up the baby, Chaser's finger and all, and cradled her in my arms.  Stubbornly she held on.  Chaser's other hand dropped to his hip, coming to rest above his blade, his warning clear.  "She's hungry… hold her for a minute."
Chaser suddenly found himself left holding the baby while Angel abandoned him.  She was gone for only a matter of seconds but it was seconds too long.  His nose was filled with the sweet scent that accompanied them.
"Right lets see if we can't convince her that this is more appetising than you."  As I ran the bottle across the baby's lips she looked uncertain for a second then latched hungrily onto the offered teat.  Taking her from Chaser's arms I sat down and fed her.
Chaser watched as Angel fed the baby.  She whispered softly to it and stroked its hair.  Finding the sight strangely disturbing he turned his eyes dropping warily to the baby crying softly in the crib next to him.  If the one she was feeding had been making a noise like this one his hand would never have fallen so close to it.  He looked back at the baby, judging it to the others around him.  "It's very small."
"She Chaser, not `It'."
"Whatever… but `she' is smaller than the others… and quieter."
"Yes she is."  I sighed as I looked down at the small bundle in my arms.  "She's had a rough start in life."
"How so?"
"Her mother was attacked and died while giving birth.  If that wasn't enough she was a drug user so this little one was born addicted.  Poor mites going through withdrawal."
He found himself feeling sorry for it.  "Will she be alright?"  He could tell by the sorrow in Angel's pale blue eyes that she wouldn't.  "Damn!… is there nothing you can do?  What am I saying it's strictly none interference with you lot isn't it unless it's to do with us!"
His words cut deep into my heart.  He was saying nothing that I hadn't said to myself already but hearing it from him hurt more than I could have possibly imagined.  Swallowing back tears I brushed a kiss over her forehead and placed her back in the crib.  "I'm ready to go now… But I'm not going with you."
Chaser's anger drained when he realised that he'd hurt her.  "I'm sorry Angel, I didn't mean to hurt you."  He took her hand before she could leave.  He knew that if she left he might never see her again.  "Come home with me… let me make it up to you."
His low husky voice and the gently bump of his body against mine had me responding instinctively.  The thought of making love with him again erasing the hurt… slightly.  "You hurt me."
"I'm sorry.  I just find it hard to understand how you can stand back and watch things like this happen."
"It- it's not easy."
"I know… trust me, I know."  Chaser pulled her close against him.  He was delighted when she slipped her arms around his waist.  She'd forgiven him.  "Let's go home."  At her small nod he whisked her quickly and quietly back home.

Chapter Twenty
I looked down at Chaser as he slept.  He looked so innocent that my heart melted at the sight.  I'd fallen in love with him.  I'd tried for months to deny my feelings for him but I couldn't do it any longer.
But I was so confused.  How could I love him knowing what he was, what he did?  We were on opposite sides yet I wanted to be with him more than anyone else.
I'd fallen deeply in love with him but I still had a job to do.
He never interfered in my job at the hospital, that he didn't mind, but my thoughts were so full of him that I found it hard to concentrate on what I should be doing.  What was he doing?  Was he missing me as much as I was him?  What would he think of the job I was doing?  Would we make love later or just sit and talk?
I never interfered if he was capturing an escaped soul.  But if I tried to stop him from taking anyone he got angry.  He got beyond angry.
One time in a fit of temper he'd thrown his blade at me.  Almost as soon as it imbedded itself in the wall beside my head he'd been at my side apologising.  That had been the first night I'd refused to return to our home with him.  There had been many more since.
Now whenever I had to stop him I refused to go anywhere near him afterwards for fear of retaliation.  I returned to the one place he couldn't track me, my true home, heaven.  There I was safe until I was needed on a case or until my need to be with him forced me back into his arms.
I'd begged them to take me off the case but had proved pointless.  Every time I'd tried to tell them what had happened they had just clammed up and refused to listen.
I was beginning to feel trapped between our jobs, what we were and my love for him.
Leaning forward I brushed a feather light kiss across his lips.  I had work to do back at the hospital.  There was another sick baby to comfort, although this one would survive.
The night the little baby girl died he held me close and offered his comfort and support while I cried.  Even knowing she was going to a beautiful place filled with love and peace, a place where there would be no more suffering couldn't offer me the solace that been in his arms did.
After she'd left Chaser sat up in bed and sighed.  He'd known her thoughts but had kept silent as he felt the same.
While they were together in this place everything was perfect between them.  But once they were out there the problems started.  While tracking down evil he started looking at his prey through her eyes.  Was he doing wrong?  What would Angel think?  Was she thinking of him?
Her continued interference was an annoyance though.  And even though he told himself it was wrong to expect her to respond differently because of what they had, it still hurt and annoyed when she got in his way.
And now she refused to be with him.  That hurt… a lot.  She feared him, something he once wanted… but no longer.  Now he just wanted them to be together.  He wanted her trust and more importantly, he needed her love.
Climbing from the bed, making it with a wave of his hand, Chaser looked around the room.  There were little bits of her creeping in slowly but surely.  Just small touches but he treasured every one.  Paintings, ornaments, books and even a vase of flowers.  She'd been nervous about everything but he kept reassuring her that it was her home as well now.  If it made her happy it made him happy.
And if flowers made her feel at home he was willing to put up with the occasional vase.  `Hell, I'd pick an entire field full of the things for her if she wanted.'
But in the mean time he had work to do.  And this time he wasn't going to let Angel interfere.

Chapter Twenty One
`Here we go again.'  Thought Chaser as a flash of white appeared behind him.  He spared her a quick glance as he advanced on his prey, blade drawn and ready.
"Chaser?"  He'd nearly caught me unawares this time.  My warnings of his activities were getting less and less and the details more and more sketchy.  This time I'd barely had time to put the sick baby back in its crib and use my senses to find out where I was needed.
"Stay out of this Angel.  I gave him fair warning last time."
Looking passed Chaser I saw that he was stalking the man that I'd saved the night I'd been assigned to the hospital.  The night Chaser touched me for the first time.  I shook the distracting memory loose and tried to get my mind back on my job.  "I thought I told you that he wasn't for you."  He moved forward unrelenting.
"And I also told you that I'd be waiting for him."  Pausing briefly he waved his blade in the direction of a darkened corner of the alley.
I heard quiet sobbing coming from the corner.  Moving closer I saw a young woman huddled in the corner, arms wrapped around her knees as she cried.  Crouching down I studied her more closely.  She wasn't a woman.  She was little more than a child, probably only thirteen or fourteen.
Her tear stained face peeked cautiously out from behind her hands.
"It's okay child I won't hurt you."
"Well Angel, do you want to save him again?"
I looked back at the cowering man that Chaser was standing over then turned back to face the little girl he'd raped.  If I'd let Chaser take him the first time none of this would have happened.  Placing my body so she couldn't see I looked at Chaser.  "Take him."
Chaser pulled the man to his feet.  He stroked his blade teasingly over the mans face to heighten his fear.  "See you in Hell little man."  He pushed the blade deep into the mans chest straight into his heart.  Pulling out the blade he turned and walked towards Angel.
I watched the man vanish in a blaze of red fire and closed my ears to the scream that echoed around the alley.  I'd failed; the man, the girl, myself and, worst of all, God.  I should have made sure that the man had followed the right path then none of this would have happened.
He could see that she was beating herself up over what had happened.  "It wasn't your job Angel.  You did everything you were told to."
"I should have let you take him."
"Maybe, maybe not… Maybe what's happened to this child will put her on the road to greater things.  Maybe that was the plan all along."
I smiled at the irony of it; a demon comforting an angel.  His lips gave an answering quirk.  The girl gave a hiccupping sob and I was reminded of where my attention should be.

Chapter Twenty Two
Chaser stepped back and watched as Angel went to work.  A heavenly glow radiated from her body as she comforted the child with softly spoken words pitched only for her ears.  She calmed slightly but was still upset, head shaking from side to side in denial of what she was hearing.
As he watched the glow around Angel's body grew so bright that looking at her became painful.  He looked back as the glow settled down to a bearable level.  What he saw had his jaw dropping in shock.
Wings of the purest white had sprouted from her back.  She spread them to their fullest, the span easily reaching over twenty-foot.  A look of wonder on her face, the girl reached up and touched Angel's wings.
Chaser was surprised to find that he was suddenly at Angel's side.  When had he moved?  He reached out but didn't dare to touch.  A strange feeling washed over him.  He had no right to touch something so beautiful, so heavenly.  His head dropped in shame.
I was intensely aware of Chaser standing at my side but I kept my attention where it belonged.  Finally the girl was beginning to accept that something good could come out of something so terrible.
"Are you an angel to?"
Chaser looked up to find himself the subject of the young girls scrutiny.  He looked to Angel for help.
"No dear… he works for the other side."
"Oh…"
Chaser suddenly felt less than proud of what he did.  Arms crept around his waist and he looked down in surprise at the girl.  His eyes flying up in shock to look at Angel.
"Thank you for saving me."
"You're welcome."  Awkwardly he patted her shoulder while wondering just how the hell he was going to get out of this without hurting her.
I smiled at the look of panic in his eyes.  But I couldn't let what we had cloud my judgement of what he was.  The only time he ever normally came into contact with humans was to take their lives.  "Do you want me to take you home?"
"Yes please."
With another whispered `thank you' to Chaser she wrapped her arms around my waist.  Turning, I found Chaser staring in fascination at my wings.  "I won't be long."
Gathering the child closer I took us both to her house.  I watched from the shadows as she fell weeping into her mothers' arms and told her parents what had happened, never once mentioning Chaser or I.  They were holding each other close as I left to go back to Chaser.
Sensing her just before she appeared, Chaser leant back against a wall and tried to look as though he hadn't been pacing around impatiently.  The sight of her wings took his breath away again.  "I didn't know you could do that."
"What?  Oh sorry I forgot about them."
"Can I?"  He reached out a hand.
"Sure."  I stepped forward and let him touch them.  He moved so hesitantly as though expecting to be struck down.  "We normally only use these on church jobs."
"Church jobs?"  The feel of her feathers against his skin was exquisite.
"There's something about religious people… angels have wings and devils have cloven hooves and horns.  So when we appear to them we wear these.  It helps them to believe."
He chuckled softly still lost in the softness of her wings, wondering what they would feel like wrapped around him.  As though hearing him she turned and folded the wings around his body.  Enclosing them both in the soft downy feathers.
"You done for the night?"  I whispered against his lips.
Chaser captured her full bottom lip between his teeth and tugged slightly.  "Yeah."  He muttered without releasing his hold.  "You?"
"Yeah… Wanna go home?"  Releasing my lip he gazed down at me.  His full sensual lips curved into a wicked smile, his eyelids drooping slightly as desire made his eyes turn smoky.
Bumping his hips into hers with a slight grind he breathed deeply to capture the smell of her rapidly rising desire.  "What do you think?"  She tugged his head down and captured his lips with her own.

Chapter Twenty Three
Walking through the twisting corridors of Hell Chaser made his way towards Deimos' office.  Each step he took he asked himself the same question, `What does he want?'
He entered the room without even knocking.  He was shocked to see all the other soul chasers there but he hid the shock quickly.  It wouldn't do to let them or Deimos, their immediate master and leader of all the soul chasers, see it.  It galled him to think that if not for his one mistake he would have been the leader and not this sorry excuse for a demon.  Chaser quietened his anger as Deimos rose from his position behind the desk and called for silence.
"I think you'll all agree that the angels are becoming a nuisance?"
Chaser stayed silent as the other soul chasers reluctantly muttered their assent.
"Well now we have a new weapon to aid us in our war."
A few of the soul chasers snorted.  Everyone knew that Deimos had never even been to the mortal world let alone faced an angel.
Crates were opened and new blades were passed around to all the soul chasers.  Chaser looked at the blade in his hand trying to see the difference between it and the one resting at his side.  The blade flashed a sickly green as he turned it.  He scowled feeling strangely uncomfortable even holding it.  "And what does this weapon do that our old ones can not?"
The other soul chasers muttered none of them feeling comfortable with the blades they turned to the one they felt was their true leader.
"These blades are very special.  Each one has the power to kill."  Deimos let the disgruntled muttering of the soul chasers reach its height before dropping his bombshell.  "The power to kill an angel."  The room fell silent as the soul chasers looked at the blades with new eyes.
Dread filled Chaser's heart.  "We can't do that.  If we start killing them we'll upset a balance that has existed throughout time.  We'll be at war."
Seeing that he was loosing them to Chaser's sound logic Deimos tried desperately to regain control.  "No… no.  I'm not saying we should kill them.  No my friends.  All we need do is threaten them."  He smiled as he had their attention once more.  "Once they feel the power of our new weapons they will not dare to stand in our way and we'll be free to continue our work."  Deimos told them his plan and the soul chasers left to carry out their work.
Chaser stayed behind and eyed Deimos with suspicion.  The smaller man was rubbing his hands together in glee as he sat back down behind his desk.
Finding himself the subject of Chaser's scrutiny Deimos swallowed nervously and eyed up the larger man.  "Something wrong Chaser?"
"I can't believe that Satan gave his permission for this."
"You're not questioning me are you Chaser?  You're not getting too close to Angel are you?  Is that why you don't like this plan?"
Not liking the way the questions were going, or how close to home Deimos was striking with his questions, Chaser left and went to his room to think.
Maybe scaring Angel away would be for the best.  Once she was out of the way he could try to forget her and things could go back to the way they were.  It would be better for both of them this way.  What they were doing was too risky for both of them.
Trying desperately to convince himself that he wasn't about to make the biggest mistake of his life Chaser replaced his usual blade with the new one.  Squaring his shoulders he tried to prepare himself for what he was about to do.  Taking a deep breath he set off with a heavy heart to do his job.

Chapter Twenty Four
He arrived in the city quietly.  Stalking through the shadows he chose his prey carefully.  They'd been ordered by Deimos to pick someone innocent, someone that would get a quick reaction from the angels.
A group of humans came from a building their laughter ringing out into the night, grating on Chaser's nerves.  He snarled when he realised he was thinking of Angel's gentle laugh.  He stalked the group waiting for his chance.  One by one they drifted apart until all that was left was one teenage boy.
The boy started to grow nervous as he walked.  Chaser could sense his heart beating in his chest.  Turning he kept glancing over his shoulder, sweat beading his forehead as he fought the urge to run.
The boy froze under a street lamp as Chaser extinguished the others in the street one by one.  Until the only illumination left was two street lamps.  The one the boy was under and the one that Chaser used to appear under.
The boy ran as fast as his legs could carry him.  To keep his fear high Chaser appeared occasionally to herd him in the right direction.  Finally reaching the place that Chaser had chosen he ended the hunt.  Grabbing the boy he threw him back against the wall of a derelict building.  Stalking forward he drew his blade.
"Do you believe in God little man?"
"Y-yes."
"Then you better pray to Him for help."
Falling to his knees in the dirt and rubble the boy struggled to do as the man had instructed.  Terror had words stumbling from his mouth as they rushed to escape.  Tears streamed down his cheeks as the huge man grabbed him by the neck and jerked him back to his feet.
"Please…"
It gave Chaser no pleasure to watch the boys eyes grow wide with fear as he raised his blade ready to strike.
"Chaser, No!"
With a flash of white Angel stepped into the path of his blade as he brought his arm down.  His arm stilled and he looked into the eyes of the woman that meant more to him than he dared think about.  The human ran but Chaser stayed where he was as he'd served his purpose.
"What were you doing?  That boy has done nothing wrong."
His new blade flashed a sickly green as he brought it back to his side.  Angel's eyes followed its movements.
"Yes, it's a new blade."  Chaser moved it slightly so she could see it better.  The evil radiating from it had her backing up.  "They say it can even kill the likes of you."  Her back hit the wall as her eyes followed every shift of the blade.
"Is that what you're going to do?  Kill me?"  The blade moved close to my throat and I swallowed nervously.  Never had I seen anything so evil.  There was something wrong with it.  "You can't kill me Chaser.  At best you'll banish me back to heaven."
"The way I've been told it'll trap your soul and you'll exist nowhere.  Not heaven, not hell."  Grabbing her he spun her around and pushed her into the wall.  With what he was about to do he couldn't look into her eyes.  "Consider this a warning Angel.  Stay away from me or next time I'll kill you."  He ran the blade over her right shoulder in a sharp downward strike.  Her cry of pain chilled his heart.  Stepping back he watched as she sank to her knees.  Blood flowed from the wound and turned her dress red.  "Just stay away Angel, please."  Cursing himself he vanished back into the shadows.

Chapter Twenty Five
The first time Chaser had accidentally stabbed me with his blade was nothing compared to the pain that was coursing though my body now.  I watched with amazement as the blood dripped from my arm, blood I shouldn't be able to shed.  Using the wall I pulled myself up onto shaky legs.
Something was wrong, very wrong.  Each step was agony, every breath, every beat of my heart.  Vision blurred by tears I wiped them away while I walked, only to realise that my sight seemed to be failing.  Something was very, very wrong.
Chaser gripped a wall as he heard the most soul wrenching sound in existence.  An angel crying, his Angel.  She staggered slightly, caught herself and carried on walking.  As her blood and tears fell to the ground a carpet of red and white blooms appeared in her wake.  Telling himself that it was better this way he went to report back to Deimos.
From where I lay on the ground I watched the flowers wither and die as poison ivy and deadly nightshade took over.  Poisonous snakes and spiders emerged and crawled and crept towards me.  The plants wrapped themselves around my arms and legs.  Easily holding me down as I had no strength left to move.
Someone leant over me and shooed away the snakes as they untangled my body from the creeping vines.
"Chaser?"
"Shush now child."
Arms gathered me up and carried me to safety.

Chapter Twenty Six
Heaven was silent.
Heaven was in mourning.
Sitting beside my bed I looked around at the makeshift hospital.  Everyone was doing their best for the others and me but they didn't really know what to do.  This was heaven, no one was supposed to fall ill, especially not the angels.  And no one was supposed to die.  But we were.
The poison had slowed down once we were brought home but it was slowly but surely spreading through us.  Taking our life with each breath that we took.
I looked up and down the ward at my fellow angels, my eyesight was so poor that all I could make out was blurry shapes.  More than a dozen of us struck down at the same time.  Though I was the only one able to stand, as Chaser hadn't driven his blade deep like the other soul chasers had.  The result would be the same though.
Standing I made my way to the door.
"Where do you think you're going?"
I resisted the gentle hands that tried to draw me back to my bed.  "I have to see Michael."
"You have to go back to bed."
"Please… before it's too late."
"You wanted to see me Angel?"
"Michael?"  A figure in shining white moved through the makeshift hospital towards me.  My eyesight was so poor that I couldn't make out his face until he was right in front of me.  Taking my hands Michael guided me gently back into my bed.  His soft, sweet smile bringing tears to the eyes of all that saw it.  "The soul chasers, are they still taking people before their time?"
"Yes."  He sighed softly.
"Is anyone trying to stop them?"
"We dare not send anyone."
"Let me go."
"You're in no condition Angel."
"Please Michael.  Let me save one more… before it's too late."

Chapter Twenty Seven
Another night.  Another hunt for another soul gone bad.  Chaser sighed as he stalked towards his prey.  Without Angel his existence was loosing meaning.  He drew his blade with a familiar flash of red.  Wanted nothing more to do with the green one he'd hidden it away as soon as he'd returned to hell.  Grabbing his prey he forced the man to his knees and raised the blade.
A flash of white had his heart soaring.  "Angel?"  Head bent low she moved between him and his prey.  Her hair hung in front of her face hiding her beautiful face from his gaze.  "Angel?"  She pointed and the man took off at a run.  "Angel?"  Her continued silence had his heart breaking.  "Talk to me!"  He grabbed her shoulders in a painful grip and shook her.
She sagged weakly in his grip and her head lolled back to reveal her face.  "Oh my God… Angel who did this to you?"  Thoughts of revenge filled his head as he looked at her.  Her skin was an unhealthy shade of grey, eyes sunk deep into her head their usual bright colour lost to a milky whiteness.  Every bone stood out in stark relief.  The ones under his hands felt as brittle as dried twigs.  "Who did this?"
"You did."
Her dry whisper stabbed through his heart.  Turning her gently he moved her dress to look at her shoulder.  It had been weeks since he'd used the green blade yet the wound hadn't healed.  Rather it had grown and festered.  The skin was swollen and red with disease.
Sinking to his knees he tenderly gathered her close and rested his head against her breast.  Her hands stroked through his hair in forgiveness while he listened to her laboured breathing.
Gathering Angel into his arms Chaser took her back to their hideout.  Stripping off her clothes he placed her tenderly on the bed.  Been more used to taking lives than saving them he was lost as to what to do for her.  And if they couldn't do anything in heaven what chance did he stand?
Sitting beside her he bathed the wound with cold water.  Even the lightest of touches had her moaning with pain but she was so weak she couldn't move away.
Her protests ceased and she lay quiet under his touch.  It was then that he noticed that the water had changed colour.  It was green but not the sickly green that the blade had given off.  Another drop splashed into the bowl turning the water a darker green.  Reaching up he touched his cheeks.  His fingers came away wet, the moisture glowing a bright green in the dim light.  Tears?  He'd never cried before.
Covering her wound with a fresh bandage he climbed into the bed and gathered her back into his arms.  His front touching every inch of her back.  He lay listening to her laboured breathing, every gasping breath hurt him more than his year spent in the lower regions been punished.  Deimos was going to pay for this.
"I must go."
"No… Sleep now Angel, I'll take care of you."  Soothing back her hair he brushed a kiss against her temple.  She grew quiet in his arms as sleep claimed her weary body.  He watched over her while she slept.  He was afraid to fall asleep himself, fearing she wouldn't be there come morning.

Chapter Twenty Eight
Sun flitted across his eyelids.  The golden rays stirring him from his slumber.  He sighed softly as Angel nuzzled his chest with her nose.  Her breath warm as it stirred against his chest.
As she stretched against him, he opened his eyes and smiled as he looked down at her.  Realisation finally dawned.  "Angel?"  Moving gently, almost fearfully, he removed the dressing from her shoulder.  Smooth, soft, unblemished skin was all he found.  "Angel?"  Muttering softly she wrapped her arms around his body and held on.
Rolling he leant over her and started stroking her body.  His light teasing touch finally started to get through to her.  Twisting, she kept trying to increase the pressure of his touch against her body.  Not getting what she wanted she started to awake.
Green was the first thing that greeted my eyes.  The familiar light green of Chaser's eyes.  They sparkled with wonder and amusement as they stared into mine.
"How do you feel Angel?"
"Feel?"  Puzzled by his question I stroked a hand over the familiar planes of his face.
"Yes feel."  He kissed the tips of her fingers as they traced his lips.  "You nearly died."
"Oh God, I-I remember."
She obviously also remembered his part in it as well.  Scrambling from his arms she leapt from the bed.  He grabbed her before she could vanish.  "Don't go."  She struggled in his arms.
"Let me go!"  I pushed against the hard wall of his chest trying desperately to break is grip.  "Please… you have to let me go!"  Wrapping his arms tight around me he stilled my futile struggles.  "Let me go."  I muttered against his chest.
"I can't do that Angel.  I won't."
Still weak Angel sagged against his body.  Ignoring her continued protests Chaser picked her up and carried her back to bed.  Climbing in he pulled her close and held tight.  If she left she'd either have to take all or parts of him with her.
Her head may be saying go but her body definitely wanted to stay.  Exhaustion claimed her weary body and with a little sigh she snuggled even closer to his body.  Once he was sure that she was asleep he followed her.
Once again I woke in Chaser's arms.  Pressing light kissed against the firm wall of his chest I enjoyed just been where I was.  Until reality started pushing it's way back.  Sliding quietly from the bed I grabbed a sheet and moved out onto the balcony to think.
"Please don't go."
Turning at his whispered plea I held my hand out to him.  "I was just thinking."  He looked so relieved as I meshed my fingers with his.  "Chaser… what happened?  Why did you do that to us?  We would never have done anything like that to you."
He told her everything he could as truthfully as he could.  "And in some stupid way I thought that we would be better off if we weren't seeing each other."
"We probably would.  But don't you think I haven't tried to end this already?  I can't stay away from you and what we had."
"Have… what we have."  He pulled her into his arms, wrapping his arms around her waist.  She settled back in his embrace but there was something wrong.  Her body was in his arms but she was strangely distant.  He wanted his Angel back.
A ball of light streaked down passed the window.  Chaser watched as more joined it.  The sky was full of them.  They streaked from the white clouds above to the red below.
"They died Chaser.  I can feel it here."  I placed a hand over my heart.
"Angel, what's happening?"
"War."

Chapter Twenty Nine
"War?"  Chaser looked out finding it hard to believe what he was seeing.  Heaven was attacking Hell.  "We have to stop this."
I heard his words and understood them but I couldn't feel anything other than the empty feeling in my heart.  They were dead.
"Angel?"  Her continued distance was starting to scare him.  "Come on baby, snap out of it."  He shook her shoulders.  "We have to stop this."
"They're dead."
"Yes they're dead… but if we don't do something to stop this so will everyone else."  Still getting no response he drew back his hand to slap her but he couldn't do that to her.  He'd hurt her too much as it was.
Grabbing her face between his hands he yanked her close and kissed her brutally.  Ramming his tongue deep into her mouth he searched out every nook and cranny.  Finally she started to respond.  Coaxing her tongue into his mouth he started sucking on it until she groaned in need.
Pushing aside her sheet her scraped his teeth along her collarbone.  Moving up at her sigh he sucked softly on her neck.
"I love you."
"You love me?"  He licked the rim of her ear and nibbled on the lobe, pulling gently with his teeth.
"Yes."
"How much?"
"More than anything."  His head fell back as I nibbled on his chest and sucked on his flat male nipples.  Sucking deeply as they hardened under my ministrations.
"Oh Angel… what you do to me."  He kissed her again, both of them fighting for control.  "We have to stop."  His breath caught in his throat as her hand snaked down his body and she cupped him in her soft hand.
"I want you Chaser."
"And I want you… but we have to stop this first."  He turned her to look at the one-sided battle raging outside.  "It won't be long before they start fighting back."
"How do we stop it?"
"With the truth."

Chapter Thirty
"Angel?"
Striding with determination I ignored the gasps of shock and surprise.  "Where's Michael?"  I shouted over my shoulder.
"Angel?"
"Michael."  I rushed into his arms.
"Oh Angel we thought you'd died as well."
"Chaser saved me."
"He did?"
I smiled at the shock in his voice.  It took a lot to catch him off guard.  The sound of another projectile been launched reminded me of why I was there.  "Michael we have to stop the attack."
"He may have saved you but all the others died.  They must be punished."
"They didn't know what they were doing."
"And that changes what?"
"Please Michael you have to listen to me.  The soul chasers were given a new blade by their leader, Deimos.  He told them that it could kill us.  They didn't want to do that so he told them to use it as a warning."
"Well it worked."
"They didn't know it would kill us Michael.  They don't want a war anymore than we do.  Think about it.  We're risking everything because of the actions of one."  I silently begged him to understand.  "Chaser's gone to try and stop things from his side."  I just hoped he wasn't too late.

Chapter Thirty One
"We should retaliate before they destroy us all!"
Chaser snarled at the sound of Deimos' voice coming from Satan's inner chambers.  The vial little demon was already there spreading his lied.  Pushing aside the guards, Chaser smashed open the double doors and stormed inside.
"What is the meaning of this interruption Chaser?"
Chaser dropped quickly to his knees before Satan and lowered his head.  "This is all Deimos' fault."
"Stand and explain."
"He gave the soul chasers these new blades."  Chaser carefully handed the green blade over to Satan.  "He told us that they had the power to kill them… but we were to use them as a warning first, cut them but not kill."  He could tell by the look on Satan's face that he was unaware of Deimos' plan.
"And you did this?"
"Yes, we followed his orders and now they are dead."
"All of them, dead?"  Satan sat down heavily in his throne and stared at the blade in his hand.
"Not all of them… I saved Angel."
"I told you he was a traitor."
"Silence!!  It is well that he did save her you fool!!  You have thrown us into a war that neither side wants nor can win!!"
"But if we're rid of them we-you can rule supreme over everything."
"We have existed like this for thousands of years.  Both sides doing what we do.  Rewarding good… and punishing evil.  Occasionally we both bend the rules a little and shout threats at each other.  But, it is how things are supposed to be."
"I don't understand?"
"No, you don't do you.  Well let me put it this way.  I'm stripping you of your job as leader of the soul chasers.  You will spend the rest of eternity on the lowest of the lower regions.  Then I will kill you.  Do you understand that?"
Chaser watched as Deimos was dragged screaming from the room.
"Well Chaser, the job of leader is now yours, as it should have been.  Enjoy it while you can."  He sighed deeply.  "What do we do now?"
Chaser looked at Satan with concern.  He sounded weary.  He slouched slightly in his chair.  Satan was one of the oldest beings alive, and certainly the most evil, but he looked nothing like humans imagined him to look.
Standing only five foot ten, slightly built, he looked to be about nineteen or twenty and he had the face of an angel.  He was after all a fallen angel.  His eyes were the one thing that gave him away.  Blacker than anything, with one look he could pull you in and strip your soul bare.
Chaser was about to tell Satan about Angel when the explosions seemed to increase.  Then there was silence.  Chaser looked up expectantly.
"Why have they stopped?"  Whispered Satan.
"Angel…  She went to tell them the truth.  She got them to stop."  He tried but not even been in the presence of Satan could stop the smile of pride from spreading across his face.

Chapter Thirty Two
I looked around at the sudden silence.  "It's over?"
"Yes… We'll give them the chance… this time."
I threw my arms around him.  "Thank you Michael, thank you."
"It's not me you should be thanking."
"Then who?"
"I think you know who.  He wants to talk with you."
"Now?"  I squeaked.
"Yes now."  He gave her a gentle push in the right direction.  Smiling at the look of shock and awe on her face.  "And Angel, next time you see Chaser."
"Yes?"
"Thank him."
"For what?"
"Saving you… Now go, don't keep Him waiting."
With suddenly reluctant and shaky legs I made my way to where He was waiting for me.  I was expecting there to be some repercussions for my relationship with Chaser.  But all He did was take me into his arms and hold me.  The bright glow from his body filled the room, warming my body and soul.
We talked for hours about nothing in particular.  I felt the need to tell him about Chaser but every time I opened my mouth to tell him he changed the conversation.
Hours later I finally made it back to our home.  Before going inside I stood on the balcony for a few minutes.  Everything was peaceful again.  A black Pegasus flew passed the beat of its wings stirring the air around me.  A white one joined it and they flew side by side, their wings beating together.  A small high pitched whiny had them halting in mid flight.  Leaning over the balcony I looked around for the source of the noise.
As I watched a small chestnut Pegasus appeared from under the balcony.  Its warm breath stirred my hair as it hovered unsteadily inches from my face, it's warm brown eyes staring directly into mine.  A snort from its parents had the foal rushing off, its flight on baby wings erratic.
"That's the first time I've ever seen one of them with young."  Chaser wrapped his arms around Angel's waist.  She leant back with a sigh.  Her fingers cupped the back of his head as he nuzzled the smooth curve of her throat.
"Did all go well?"  The kisses he was planting against my throat were starting to drive all rational thought from my mind but I needed to know.
"Yeah… Deimos has been banished and I've been appointed as the new leader of the soul chasers."  Turning her around he started teasing her lips with his while his fingers started working on the front of her dress, fingers stroking and plucking at the flesh he exposed.
"Congratulations."  Quickly undoing the laces of his coat I parted the leather and stroked my hands over his chest, delighting to the feel of the growl rumbling through him.
"I've found something that means more to me than been leader of the soul chasers."  Stripping off her dress he scooped her up into his arms, lifting her high so that he could feast on her breast.  She grabbed his head, fingers spasming against him as she arched her back.  He took her lips in a kiss, nibbling gently on their lush fullness before plunging his tongue deep inside.  She met his aggression with her own, her tongue rushing to meet his.
Somehow he managed to walk to the bed without breaking the kiss, although he couldn't even remember moving.  Placing Angel on the bed he looked deep into her love filled gold eyes.
Chaser stepped back from the bed intending to slowly strip off the rest of his clothes.  He knew it drove her mad when he went slowly.  Her eyes went wide as he stroked his hands slowly down his chest.  His fingers moved slowly over his stomach and as her eyes followed his every move, he shivered in delight.
"I want you."  His body shivered again at my words, his chest heaving with the effort of controlling himself.  "Come here."  Smirking, he shook his head and continued to unlace his trousers.  My mouth went dry as he pushed them down, exposing himself fully to my gaze.
Her gasp of pleasure inflamed his already heightened senses.  He took the necessary steps back to the bed, swaggering under the force of his need.  Taking in her scent as he drew closer he crawled onto the bed and stalked his way up her body, pinning her hand over her head as he moved.  "If you touch me I'm gonna loose it."
"Then loose it my love.  I need you now."  I wrapped my legs around him, trying to coax him into action.
Chaser entered her slowly, trying desperately to hold on to his tenuous control.  He closed his eyes to savour the exquisite feeling.  He moved slowly wanting this time to be as special as their first time together.  He nearly lost is as Angel scraped her teeth down his neck.  His hips shot forward burying himself deeper in the searing, welcome heat of her body.  Her groan at the sensation and the tightening of her body of his had him moving quicker, angling his body to give them both the greatest pleasure.
Angel's whispered words of encouragement quickly drove him to the point of no return and he started moving faster.  Claiming her lips with his own he swallowed her sighs and gasps of pleasure.  The sting of her nails against his back sending him to new heights.  Her body clamped down sharply of his buried length as she climaxed, quickly followed by another and another.  He could feel his own rushing closer the intensity of it threatening to overwhelm him.
It was beyond anything he'd ever felt before.  His back bowed sharply as he came within her, his cry of pleasure mingling with hers.  It felt as though his soul had been torn from his body and soared away, joining and merging with Angel's.  The intensity of the pleasure made his arms weak and he collapsed against her.  Angel's hands stroked his back as she welcomed his full weight against her.
*Wow!*
I rubbed my hands over his back, loving the feeling of his strong body pressing mine into the mattress.  I could feel his heart beating through my body as it gradually slowed my own beating at the same pace as his.
Regaining some strength Chaser propped himself back onto his elbows.  Angel groaned as he moved.  He looked down at her, smiling at the look of love of her softly smiling face.  Her eyes were still closed but he knew they would be changing slowly back from burning gold to a dark brown.  He kissed the tip of her nose marvelling at how much he loved her.  The realisation made him jump slightly but he knew it was true.  He was shocked to see tears glistening on her cheeks, green tears, his tears.
I opened my eyes at his quiet gasp.  Reaching up I kissed his tears away.  "What's wrong my love?"
"I nearly lost you."
"I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere again."
"Promise?"
"I promise never to willingly leave you."  I wanted to promise him more but that was all I could give him and still tell the truth.

Chapter Thirty Three
Looking passed the buildings I watched as the sun set in a blaze of colour.  The sun gone the night soon started to close in.  Streetlights flicked to life trying to ward away the fast approaching night.  Sighing I looked down at the alley below.  I'd got a job to do but they wouldn't tell me what it was just where it was.
A familiar feeling brought a smile of anticipation to my lips.  Chaser was close, I could feel him hunting me.  A shiver ran down my spine and pooled as a ball of warmth in my stomach.  "Have you noticed how much time we spend on roofs and in alleyways lately?"
Chaser froze in his tracks, hand poised to touch her shoulder.  "You knew I was here?"  She turned and smiled up at him, fingers moving to play with his chest.
"I could feel you hunting me."
"Like this?"  He let a little of his power trickle out, smiling as she closed her eyes and shivered in delight.
"Just like that.  But there's more now."
"More?"  Picking up a strand of her hair he brought it to his lips and kissed it.  Her eyes started to turn golden as she watched him.
"I feel complete when I'm with you."
"You do?"
"It's hard to explain."  I tried to turn away from him but his strong hands held me fast.
"You don't need to.  I feel the same way.  Every second we're apart all I can think about is you.  And when we're together I feel whole… complete… loved."  He punctuated each word with a kiss.  Turning her around he pulled her back against his body.  Wrapping his arms around her waist he just enjoyed holding her.
I settled back against the hard length of his body with a sigh of contentment.  The sigh turned to a groan as his soft lips brushed the side of my neck.
Chaser growled softly and rubbed his chin against her.  He chuckled as the move made her laugh.  Suddenly she stiffened and pulled out of his arms.
"What are you doing here Chaser?"  I looked into his eyes trying to read him.  He looked at me, eyes narrowed in suspicion and I returned his look.  Things had been so good between us lately and I didn't want to rock the boat and accuse him of anything.
Before he could explain why he was there voices drifted up from the alley below.  Angel vanished from his side and appeared in the street.  Chaser stayed where he was and watched.  She talked to one of the men but the other stayed hidden in the shadows.  Everything seemed to be going well then suddenly the man grabbed Angel around the throat and started shouting into her face.
"Why should I believe anything you say!?!"
"Because, little man, if you carry on as you are the next thing you'll see is me."
"Oh and what will you do, sing hymns until I give in?"
Eyes flashing red Chaser grabbed the man by the back of the neck and turned him around.  Wrapping his fist around his throat Chaser hoisted him up until his feet were dangling off the ground.  "I don't sing… I take vile, disgusting souls and send them straight to Hell for an eternity of suffering.  Is that what you want?"
"N-no, please, no."
"Then listen to Angel or the last thing you'll see will be me."  Chaser released the man again and stood back with his arms folded as Angel talked to him.  He could suddenly sense something evil nearby.  Chaser eyed the man up, he was evil but not the cause of what he'd sensed.  Chaser glanced around but couldn't find anything.  Finally Angel finished with the man and he walked towards her.
As I walked to meet him I saw the man step from the shadows.  He'd been that quiet that I'd forgotten all about him.  I was about to talk to him when his face shifted into a mask of hatred.  And it was all directed towards Chaser.  Evil radiated from him in waves.
"I'll never go back!!!"
Chaser started to turn at the scream but I knew he wouldn't be quick enough.  I grabbed the blade from Chaser's side and plunged it deep into the heart of the evil soul just before its hands could touch Chaser.
Chaser didn't even bother to watch as the escaped soul vanished with a scream back to Hell.  He had eyes only for Angel and she was clearly shocked by what she'd done.  "Give me the blade Angel."  She looked down at the blade smouldering in her hand with shock in her eyes.  Taking the blade and re-sheathing it Chaser captured her hand and inspected it for damage.  Her skin was unblemished.
"What have I done?"
"You sent him back where he belonged."
"But I'm not supposed to interfere.  And I'm not meant to be able to touch that."  I pointed to the blade at his side.  It was forged in Hell and no heavenly being was supposed to be able to touch them like I just had.  "What's happening to me… to us?"
"I'm not sure… but I like it."  Chaser stroked her face.  Her eyes had turned nearly white in her shock but they were gradually turning brown again.  "I liked working with you rather than against you.  Maybe we should do it more often?"
"I-I think I'd like that."

Chapter Thirty Four
"Come on Chaser… you promised."
Arms folded stubbornly across his chest he refused to look down.  If he met her eyes he knew he'd give in and he didn't want to give in.  "How did I let you talk me into this?"  Then he remembered.  She'd teased him with her body until he'd given in.  By the time she'd finished he would have agreed to anything she'd suggested.  Anything just so long as she'd give him the relief he was desperate for.
"Please?"  I trailed my hands teasingly down his hard muscular arms.  Moving them around his waist to his back I stepped closer.  His muscles twitched under my touch then softened slightly in surrender.  I'd won.
"Are you sure you're an angel?"  He asked looking down into her triumphant eyes.  "Cause you're very wicked if you are."
"Only with you."
"Good."  Chaser leant down to take her lips.
"No." I placed a finger over his lips.  "You promised."
"Oh okay.  Lets get this over with."
"Chaser, trust me."
"I do… I just don't trust them."  With merely a thought Chaser changed his clothes to something more suitable for whatever she had planned.
"Just promise not to kill anyone.  I'd hate to have to explain that."  I looked him over.  He looked as inconspicuous as someone of seven foot could, which was not very.
Everything was black, which came as no surprise.  Biker boots, skintight jeans, sleeveless shirt that showed off the breadth of his shoulder and chest and the tattoos adorning his arms.  His beautiful long hair was pulled back in a simple ponytail.  A black and white bandanna kept the hair off his face and effectively hid the tattoos above his eyes.  His left wrist bore a very expensive looking thick gold chain, a matching one wrapped around the strong column of his throat.
He looked, in a word… gorgeous.
Taking a pair of black wraparound sunglasses from the top pocket of his shirt he covered up his eyes.  "Can't go around scaring people by flashing red eyes at them."  He chuckled wryly.
As soon as his eyes were covered I missed them.  Reaching up I pulled them slowly off and tucked the glasses into the neck of my dress.  Grabbing the neck of his shirt I pulled him down for a kiss.
"I thought you wanted to go out."  He muttered teasingly against her lips.
*Damn but he looks good enough to eat.*
He decided to hold her to that later but first he may as well get his torture over with.  Chaser pulled his glasses from her dress and covered his eyes up again.  "You gonna change?"
"I don't need to."
"If I do… you do."  Reaching out he changed her clothes for her.
"Chaser!"  I looked down in shock at what he'd got me wearing.  Tight black leather trousers, thigh length leather boots with three-inch heels.  The sinful bottom half was topped off with a very demur cobalt blue blouse.
"Only I get to see what's under there."  He swept a finger teasingly over the centre of her right breast.  Hands moving round he cupped her bottom and yanked her sharply against his body.  Dipping his head he ran his lips over the soft flesh of her throat.  Hands gripping his shirt she sagged weakly against him with a low groan of need.  "Mmm… think I'll make you wear leather more often.  It feels good on you.  Damn good."
Chaser's hands shifted again, heading for parts he knew drove me particularly wild.  One hand rubbed over the base of my spine.  Tingles of desire radiated from his working fingers.  His other hand travelled up over my spine heading towards his other goal.
One I could barely resist, if he hit the spot at the top of my spine we'd never even make it back to bed.  Using what little of my will to resist him there was left I tore myself from his arms and turned my back on him.
"Look at me."
Bending over, hands braced on my knees I sucked in some much need air.  "Hell no!  If I do that we'll never get out of here."
"If you want to leave I suggest you stand up straight… right now."  The sight of Angel bending over wearing tight leather trousers was more than he could bear.  Maybe making her wear leather hadn't been such a good idea after all.
The deep husky growl of need in his voice thrilled me down to my three-inch heels.  A feeling of power washed over me adding sway to my hips as I walked back over to him and started running my hands over his chest.  "What's wrong baby?"
"You've got precisely five seconds to decide whether you want to go out amongst them or stay here and make mad, passionate love for… oh… I'd say at least three days."
I used every one of those five seconds to drive him out of his mind.  Running my hands over every available inch of his hard body I rubbed myself against him while I pretended to think.  "Five seconds?… Stay in or go out?… I think… that… we should…"
"Angel!!"
"Go out."
His hands dropped to his hips in shock.  She flashed him a wicked smile but he could see by her eyes that her teasing had backfired against her somewhat.  She was desperate for him.  "Okay lets go… and Angel… I'll make you pay for this… later."
"Lord I hope so."

Chapter Thirty Five
I held his hand as we walked slowly through the streets.  We'd started off well on the outskirts and made our way in, as I wanted to build the amount of people he came into contact with slowly.  He'd been stiff at first, his body radiating with anger whenever he saw anyone but eventually he loosened up and just started to ignore them.
He knew what she was doing and was grateful for it.  But the only thing stopping him from lashing out at them or just going home was her.  The brush of her body against his as they walked along and the feel of her hand in his kept his thoughts anchored.
The amount of people was starting to increase, everyone rushing in the same direction.  "So where are you taking me then?"
"A wrestling show."
"A what?"
Angel explained to him where they were going and what they'd see.  He was intrigued by it but the thought of been close to so many people made him shudder.
"You'll like it.  Just try and remember that if anyone pushes into you they don't mean anything by it.  So no hitting back."  I squeezed his hand gently and moved closer to reassure him.
"For you Angel… I'm doing this for you."  He kissed the back of her hand.
Chaser was glad when they finally made it inside the arena.  The place was packed but everyone was well behaved.  To make sure that no one pushed into him he used his power to make everyone feel uncomfortable if they came too close.  And holding Angel tucked against his front he knew he could handle anything.
The matches started and with Angel's help he was able to follow the complicated story lines, even if a lot of them didn't make too much sense.  "So you're telling me that over the last couple of months those two have been mortal enemies and now they're working together?"
"Yeah… It won't last though, the crowd prefers it when they fight each other."
Chaser watched as one of the wrestlers leapt over the ropes surrounding the ring, missing his intended target he landed straight onto his partner.  The two men had harsh words then continued to fight their opponents.  The match ended after one man performed what Angel call a piledriver on another.  He could see how the moves were done so that no one came to any harm but he was impressed nonetheless by the athleticism of the men.
"How come you know so much about this `sport'?"  The fact that everyone knew that the moves were fake yet still they came to watch surprised him but Angel had said that they `came to escape'.
"See the man in the ring wearing the red?"
Chaser eyed up the man she pointed out.  "Yes."
"Two years ago he was nearly killed when one of the moves went wrong."
"You were assigned to him?"
"Yeah… It was a difficult time for him and he became very self-destructive… lashing out at everyone that tried to help him.  But eventually he pulled through.  Now he does a lot of charity work, visiting sick children, things like that… Anyway while assigned to him I… I sorta became addicted to wrestling so whenever I can, I come and watch."
Chaser smiled at the slight hint of embarrassment in her voice as she explained her `addiction'.  "Don't worry.  I won't tell anyone."  He whispered.
An explosion of fireworks signalled the end of the show and everyone started trooping back out of the arena.  Chaser growled at my back as someone jostled him.
"Can't I just kill one of them?"
I smacked his hand lightly.  "Behave yourself."  In retaliation he tightened his grip around my waist and nuzzled closer, tickling me with the rasp of his beard against the crook of my neck.
"You got something else planned or can we go home now?"
The husky rasp of his voice, so full of promises of things to come almost made me say `home', but just in time I pulled the word back.  I had more things to show him and I wasn't going to let him distract me from my task.

Chapter Thirty Six
Deciding not to risk his compliant mood by taking him through the crowded streets I took his hand and transported the both of us to warehouse.
Chaser looked around in confusion at the piles of crates stacked from floor to ceiling.  "Here?"
"No, silly."  Ignoring his growl of annoyance at my choice of words I led him out of the warehouse.  "I couldn't take us there directly, too many people around."  As I opened the door laughter and the buzz of conversations washed over us.  Chaser stiffened at my back at the noise.  "Promise to behave?"
"I take it that means no taking anyone?"
"Precisely.  Don't worry… This is nothing compared to an arena with over ten thousand people in it."  I opened the door further and stuck my head inside to see if anyone was close.
"Over ten thousand?"
"Well actually it was nearer twenty thousand.  Eighteen thousand, five hundred and twenty five to be exact, not including the twenty unborn babies of course."
"Of course."  Muttered Chaser.  He couldn't believe he'd been near that many people.  Of course he'd only had eyes for one person and that was Angel.  Who, he noticed, seemed to be too busy to notice his distress at the thought of all those humans.
"All clear."  I tugged gently on his hand and led him into the bar.  There were plenty of people inside but the place was big enough that it wasn't crowded.
"Hey girl, been a while."
Hearing the familiar voice I turned and wrapped my arms around the mans ample waist.  "Jake, it's good to see you."  I blushed as he held me away from him, his eyes sweeping up and down to take in my clothes.
"Well that's a new look."
"Chaser's bad influence."  Jake's gave a start of surprise as his eyes drifted to the man behind me.
"Nice to meet ya."
Chaser took the mans offered hand while still trying to decide whether to kill him for touching Angel.  Chaser searched the man's soul expecting to find some evil in him but all he found was a good honest man that thought of Angel as a kid sister. "Can I get you folks something to drink?"
"I'll have the usual and..."  I looked at Chaser wandering what he'd want.
"And I'll have a whiskey and coke."
"Right, you go find yourselves somewhere to sit and I'll bring them right over."
"Thanks Jake."  Spotting a quiet corner to sit a led Chaser over to the booth.  I slid in one side and Chaser sat opposite me, his legs brushing against mine under the close confines of the booth.  It was hard to read him with his glasses on but he looked like he wanted some answers.  I was saved by the arrival of Jake with our drinks.
"One JD and coke… and one scotch, neat."  He placed the drinks on the table.  "Call me if you need anything."  Eyeing Chaser up one last time he went back to the bar.
"I don't think he likes me."  He chuckled.  Chaser placed his elbows on the table and leaned in close to her.  Pushing down his glasses slightly he looked at her over the top of them.  "So Angel, what's this all about?"
"Have you had a good time?"
"What's that got to do with anything?"
"Have you?"  I chewed on my lip while I waited for his answer.
"Actually… yes."  It shocked him when he realised that he had.
"Good."
"But only because you were with me."  He stroked a finger down her cheek as she blushed in happiness.
"I wanted to show you that not everything was so bad down here.  There are good people and things down here and I thought it was about time you got to see some of them.  Not angry are you?"
"With you Angel?  Never."  Chaser took a sip of his drink relishing the burn of the alcohol as it moved down his throat.  His eyes widened in shock as Angel knocked back her neat whiskey in one gulp.  She smiled sheepishly and shrugged.  "It's a good thing alcohol doesn't affect us else I'd be carrying you home tonight."
"Well you could carry me if you want."  He gave a bark of laughter at my comment, drawing looks from people at the tables nearby.  Jealousy stabbed through me when I saw the appreciative looks the women were giving him.  *Mine!*  Grabbing Chaser by the front of his shirt I pulled him close and planted a kiss on him to let everyone know he was taken.
"And what was that for?"  He knew perfectly well what was wrong with her and he liked it.  "I love having you at my side Angel.  "We fit so well together… in all things and all ways."  He stroked a knuckle down the side of her face.
"Even work?"
"Even work."  He knew she still worried about them working together, and sometimes he did as well.  But everything seemed to be going well.
When she was out saving a soul he tagged along to make sure they were really sincere about changing their ways.  And scaring them with the consequences of not changing, if they were been difficult.
And when he was out hunting she went with him to try and convince him that there was hope for them and that they were willing to change.  If it was obvious that they were beyond hope she was willing to turn her back.
She also went with him when he was capturing an escaped soul for no other reason than to watch him work.
Draining the rest of his drink he placed the glass down with a snap.  He smiled as Angel's eyes leapt up to meet his.  "You ready to go yet?"

Chapter Thirty Seven
Before I could answer his question and the look in his eyes, the door opened and six large men entered the bar.  I was spotted instantly and yanked from my seat and swept up into the arms of one of them for a hug.
"Angel."
"Hi Bram."
Chaser relaxed back into his seat when he recognised the man as the wrestler that Angel had been assigned to.
"You here on business?"
"No… purely pleasure tonight."  I turned Bram to face Chaser.  "Bram I'd like you to meet Chaser."
Bram eyed Chaser up and down with interest and held his hand out to the intimidating looking man that Angel was with.  He did a double take when he saw just how intimidating he was.
I watched as Chaser rose to his feet and took Bram's hand in a firm grip.  Bram was a tall man at six foot five and he didn't have to look up to many people but he was having to do it now.
"Damn!  You ever thought of been a wrestler?"
"A wrestler?"  Chaser could see Angel trying desperately to hide her smile.  "I've already got a job."
"Pity, with your height and build you'd be great.  Well if you ever change your mind…"
"Hey you!  You're one of them ain't ya?  One of them wrestlers?"
Chaser could see Bram's body tense at the tone of voice the drunk was using.
"You!  Don't ignore me when I'm talkin' to ya!"
Bram rolled his eyes and turned to face the man with a smile plastered in place.  Everywhere they went it was the same; some drunken fool thinking they could take on a wrestler.  "Yes, I'm a wrestler."
I kept a close eye on Chaser as he watched Bram try to persuade the drunk not to make a fool of himself.  The drunk wasn't listening to reason but I knew Bram and the other wrestlers were used to this kind of situation and could take care of themselves.  But if Chaser got involved, Lord only knew what would happen.  I tried to draw Chaser away but all I managed to do was draw the drunks attention to Chaser.
"You one of them as well?"
"One of what?"
"One of them sissy wrestlers!"
I covered my face with a groan as Chaser's eyes narrowed dangerously.
Knowing how drunk the man was Chaser was all ready to let his words pass without comment until he turned on Angel.
"And you… I bet you're one of those sluts…"
As I watched Bram spun the man around and planted his fists in his face.  He sailed through the air and landed hard on a table.  With a crack the table split in two and the drunk was left lying unconscious on the floor.  His friends and Bram's stood and eyed each other up.
"I think that's enough of that boys!"  Everyone turned and looked at Jake as he walked from behind the bar.  He wasn't armed but everyone knew better than to argue with him.  "You boys have had more than enough to drink, why don't you pick up your friend and take him home and leave these good folks to enjoy a quiet drink undisturbed."
The drunk mans friends looked like they were going to argue but before they could say anything all the regulars stood up and showed their support for Jake.  All the alcohol induced bravado left them when they saw how outnumbered they were.  Gathering up their friend they started for the door.
Chaser kept his eye on them as they left.  What he `read' from the man had him wanting to act but he didn't want to spoil Angel's night by getting into a fight.  But he couldn't let what the man had planned go unpunished.
Because he'd lost the bar fight he was planning on going home and taking it out on his wife and children.  And it wouldn't be the first time he'd done it either.
Chaser glanced over at Angel, wondering if he might be able to go after the man without her noticing his absence but it was obvious from her expression that she'd read what the man had planned as well.
I could see the question in Chaser's eyes and nodded my head in agreement at him.  He strode after the men and stopped them before they could walk from the bar.  Leaning in close whispered to the man.  He tried to protest but Chaser silenced him by pulling down his glasses and flashing his eyes at him.
"What's going on?"  Queried Bram as he watched Chaser.  Angel glanced at him briefly then went right back to watching Chaser.  "He don't look much like an angel to me."  She made a few spluttering noises and blushed.  "He's not is he?… Oh Angel what have you gotten yourself into?"
"Love Bram… I've fallen in love with him."  I wrapped my arms around Chaser's waist when he walked back over to us.  Pulling him down I pressed a light kiss to his soft lips.
"And what was that for?"  Hugging her close he stroked a hand through her hair and down her back.
"Just felt like it."  I muttered into his chest.  A soft chuckle rumbled through his chest at my words.  "Do you want to go home now?"
"No… not just yet."  He smiled at the shocked expression on her face.  "This place is just starting to get interesting."  Sitting back down he drew a stunned Angel down onto his lap.
Sitting in his lap I leant back against him and listened as he talked to Bram.  Actually what he did was draw Bram out and got him to talk about his life; the time he spent on the road, the work he did with underprivileged children and the wife he kept having to leave at home.
"Don't you miss them?"
"With all my heart.  She drives out to be with me as often as she can and I go back home when I can.  But I miss her."
"Have you ever thought of working together?  It works for Angel and I."
Bram thought about it, trying to think of reasons why it wouldn't work.  Then he realised that, if his wife was willing, there was no reason why it couldn't work.  "That's a damn fine idea!  Why in the hell haven't I thought of that?"  He muttered.
"Hate to interrupt man, but we better get going."
Bram looked up at his friend and glanced at his watch.  "Damn…  You're right."  Standing up he gave Angel a quick hug then shook hands with Chaser.  "Thanks for the advice."
"Pleasure."  He was surprised to find that it had been a pleasure.
"Hey… did you come on your bikes tonight?"
"Yeah."
Smiling I grabbed Chaser's hand and pulled him towards the door.  "Come on lets see them off."

Chapter Thirty Eight
Even though he was puzzled as to why she wanted to take him outside he went with her.  When he saw what was there he stopped dead in his tracks.
Lined up in front of the bar was more than a dozen motorbikes.  Some belonging to the wrestlers and the rest to the other bar patrons.
Bram climbed astride his bike and started the engine.  At the throaty purr of the engine Chaser was captivated by the raw, primitive power of the machine.
I waved to Bram as he rode off with the other wrestlers and turned my attention back to Chaser.  Crouching down he was inspecting one of the bikes.  I knew he'd like the bikes.  I had to smile at how fascinated he was by them.  The roar of an engine down the street caught my attention.
*That looks like fun.*
Chaser dragged his attention from the bike and looked at a couple as they rode passed.  He wondered what the man was enjoying more, the powerful bike he was controlling or the woman pressed up against his back with her arms wrapped around his waist.
"What are you thinking about?"  The smile on his face was absolutely wicked as he looked me up and down.  "Chaser?"
"Let's go for a ride."
The low throaty purr of his voice had shivers of anticipation running through me.  He had more in mind than going for a ride.  "We haven't got a bike."
"Yes we have."  Making sure that no one was watching he led her into a nearby alley.  He kept her facing him while he brought forth a motorbike.  Satisfied with what he'd done he turned her around.  Her gasp of surprise and delight made him smile.
I walked over to the bike, eyeing it up warily.  It was an absolute monster of black and chrome, far bigger and more powerful than anything on earth.  I stroked a hand over the brush art on the tank of the two of us embracing.  I stroked a finger over the lips of the Chaser in the picture as the real thing came to stand beside me.
Climbing astride the bike Chaser started the engine with a thought.  Twisting the throttle he listened to the throaty roar of the engine.  He held out his hand and Angel placed hers in his and climbed up behind him.
I wrapped my arms around his lean waist and leant against his back.  He reached back and pulled me so close that nothing could get between us.
"Ready?"  Feeling her nod against his back he set the bike in motion.  He took it slow at first so he wouldn't scare anyone.  But once they were out of the city he twisted the throttle open.  The bike leapt forward in a surge of power, quickly reaching speeds that were impossible with a normal bike.
Everything whipped passed them at a lightning fast pace; roads, trees, fields, cities, deserts, mountain ranges, states.  And as they rode Angel was running her hands up and down his chest and pressing kisses against his back.  Finally unable to take any more, Chaser pulled the bike to a grinding halt and reached for Angel.
One second I was sitting behind him, the next I was sitting on the tank looking up into Chaser's passion filled eyes.  With a deep groan he yanked hard on my hips and brought our bodies together.
As Angel's head fell back, Chaser took advantage and nibbled, sucked and licked his way up and down her throat.  Fingers working quickly he opened her blouse and cupped the firm swell of her breasts in his palms.  Angel's head fell back with a sigh as he moved down and started sucking on her breasts while he thrust his hips up in a teasing rhythm.  "Let's go home Angel."
"Well I'm not sure if I want to yet."  I smiled as he growled at me.  Kissing him softly I snuggled close to his chest.  "Sorry, sometimes I just can't help myself where you're concerned."
"Angel, you can help yourself to me anytime you want."
I chuckled as he deliberately twisted my words around.  The chuckle dissolved into a groan of need as he massaged the top and bottom of my spine.  Heat radiated through my body in waves making me weak with desire and love.
She collapsed back until she was laying back against the tank her legs moving up to wrap around his waist.  Her hair tumbled around her shoulders as her head thrashed from side to side.  "I'm through with waiting Angel.  We're going home now and I'm going to make love to you `til all you can think about is me."
*Too late.*
Chaser took Angel's lips in an utterly primal kiss.  Ravaging the soft interior of her mouth he encouraged her to return his kiss.  As they fought for control of the kiss he took them home to carry out his promise.

Chapter Thirty Nine
The group from the Legacy had spent another unsuccessful night staking out various buildings around the city, hoping for a glimpse of the Soul Chaser.  They knew he was around somewhere.  The amount of murders may have slowed but they were still happening.  Unfortunately it was a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.
They met back at an all night café to plan their next move.
"Nick, are you listening to us?"
"What?"  He dragged his eyes away from the window but it wasn't long before his gaze drifted back outside.  The other's looked to see what had caught his attention.  He had been watching a beautiful young woman walking up the street.  She looked out of place in this rough neighbourhood.  As she walked along she stopped occasionally to talk to some of the down and outs crouched in doorways.  He was expecting her to get mugged but they would just smile.  Her mode of dress was also unusual, in that it was near freezing outside and she was wearing only a thin dress and no coat.
She stopped at an entrance to a dark alley, looking furtively around before ducking inside.
Nick left his seat and started for the door muttering "She could get hurt." as he left.
Derek's psychic abilities kicked in and pictures flashed before his eyes; the woman, the woman in Soul Chaser's grip and one of Nick been stabbed by Soul Chaser.  "Come on."  He called over his shoulder to the others as he went after Nick.  He had no idea what they would be able to do if they did run into Soul Chaser.  They didn't have his blade, which was supposedly the only way to kill him and even that hadn't stopped him last time.
They caught up with Nick across the street.  They entered the alley, keeping to the shadows as the crept closer.  Nick wanted to rush in and drag the woman out but Derek stopped him.  He didn't tell Nick what he had seen in his visions, just told him not to get involved.
In his vision the woman in Soul Chaser's arms had not looked like she needed rescuing.  They saw the woman waiting at the end of the alley.  They hid behind a dumpster bathed in shadow and waited.  They didn't have to wait long.
A flash of red smoke signalled the arrival of Soul Chaser.  All but Nick and Alex gasped when they saw him.  Even after reading all the reports it hadn't prepared them for the sheer size of the man.  Derek held onto Nick's arm when he felt him tense up ready to strike out at Soul Chaser, still wanting revenge for his brother.
They watched in amazement when Soul Chaser and the woman embraced and started hungrily kissing each other.
Chaser pushed Angel back against a wall with a growl, his hands running up and down her body.  Her hands were stroking over his back and shoulders, grasping his hair and running over his cheeks.  He pulled back slightly pressing light kisses over her face.
"I can't stop long."  He said with regret.  "I've got an escaped soul to catch."
"Well at least this ones an escaped one."
He wished that he could stay with her longer.  The feel of her body pressing against his was driving him mad with longing.  He kissed her again, plunging his tongue deep into her mouth and setting up a stroking rhythm that had her moaning and moving against him, wanting him as much as he wanted her.  He could smell her desire rising further.  With one last kiss to her forehead he stepped away from her.
"Tomorrow?"
"I'm not sure…"  Our jobs had been keeping us apart more than we liked lately.  There had been a number of souls escaping lately that was keeping him busy and I was busy at the hospital again.
He grasped her jaw forcefully and made her look at him.  "Tomorrow!  On the roof of the hospital."  At her smile and nod of agreement he rewarded her with a quick kiss, stepped back and vanished to carry out his hunt.
Derek watched as the woman started walking back down the alley towards them.  They had nowhere to hide from her and he was afraid that they were going to get caught.  But with a sensual smile on her face she walked right passed them without even pausing.

Chapter Forty
Nick had spent the whole day trying to work out which hospital Soul Chaser and the woman had agreed to meet at.  There were so many and he wasn't sure how big a territory the man covered.  And after all the analysis was done with the fancy computers at the Foundation, he flipped a coin and hoped for the best.
Derek didn't want them to do anything until they could figure out a way to confront Soul Chaser without getting killed.  Nick just wanted to save the woman from whatever Soul Chaser was planning so he had left the foundation without telling anyone where he was going.
He'd arrived at the hospital roof a couple of hours before he thought they would meet and sat in waiting.  A flash of red and voices talking signalled that he had lucked out.  They were round the corner from where he was, he crept closer and tried to listen in but they were talking too low for him to catch anything.  The talking stopped so he peeked around the corner.
He was sitting down with his back propped against the wall, she was sitting astride his thighs facing him and they were kissing.  He drew back and waited.  Every so often he took another peek.
He blushed when he caught sight of her naked body when she stripped for the soul chaser.
The sight of the man naked had him feeling very inadequate.  He was glad he hadn't brought any of the women with him, seeing THAT might make them turn to devil worship.
He sat down against the wall and tried to block out the sounds of them making love.  After a couple of hours he was wishing he had thought to bring a book with him.  He was beginning to wonder if they were going to go at it all night when they both, once again, screamed in release then everything fell silent.
Nick waited a few minutes wondering if they were going to start up again but everything stayed silent so he looked round the corner again.
Chaser rolled onto his back taking me with him so that I was lying on his chest.  We were still locked together savouring the feelings of the aftershocks running through each other's bodies.
It was a wonderful time, our bodies heavy with lethargy, touching each other gently as we drifted back to earth.  At the same time it was a sad moment, wondering if we would be able to see each other again and be able to soar among the clouds with each other.  I sighed deeply and he felt it.
"What's wrong Angel?"
"It's just… I can't believe they haven't found out about us and I keep expecting to be sent somewhere else as punishment."
"If they did I would just track you down."  He breathed in deeply.  "I could track you around the world just by your scent alone."  He breathed in again.  "Mmm… Rose, lily of the valley, jasmine and a healthy dose of desire.  If they send you away just think about me and I'll soon find you."
I cuddled against him at his words, feeling secure and loved.  We were risking so much by doing what we were doing but we were incapable of stopping.  I knew that He must know all about us.  He was everywhere and knew all that was going on, so why hadn't anyone stopped us.
I nibbled on his lips for a time then pulled out of his arms, sighing and closing my eyes in delight as he slipped from my body.  As I watched he became aroused again.  I would have loved to carry on for the rest of the night but I had an assignment to go back to.
I pulled my gaze away from his body and looked into his wickedly sparkling eyes.  "I've got to go."  I said with regret.  I pulled on my dress and Chaser pulled on his leather trousers and reached for his jacket.  Before he could put it on we shared one last kiss and I ran my hands over the firm wall of his chest.  My fingernails scraped over his flat nipples until they puckered with desire under my touch.
"I thought you said you had to go?"  He laughed.
"I think you'll have to leave first because I don't want to leave you."
He put his jacket on and quickly re-laced it.  "I'll meet you at home later…  The we can finish what we started."  He smiled as she shivered in delight.  Cupping her face he nibbled softly on her kiss bruised lips.  "Later."
I sighed after he left, missing him already.
I started to turn as I heard a noise behind me, wondering if the other angels had been sent to drag me back.  I caught a brief glimpse of a man standing behind me then pain exploded in my head.

Chapter Forty One
Nick pocketed the cosh and swung Angel's limp body up over his shoulder.  After hearing them talk he had come up with a quick plan.  He could use Soul Chaser's tracking ability against him.  Derek was going to hate it but once the bait was in the Legacy House he'd have to go along with it.
He put her in his car and noticed with surprise that she was starting to stir.  With the knock he had given her she should have been out for hours.  Reaching into the glove compartment he quickly found a syringe and the vial he was looking for.
Thanks to some of the investigations they often got caught up in all the Legacy members had to carry some very potent drugs with them.  Filling the syringe he pumped it into Angel.  She sighed and went limp in the back seat.  He filled the syringe again and put it where he could grab it if she started moving again.
By the time he made it back to the Legacy house he had pumped her with three syringes full.  Even as he drove through the gates he knew that she was awake and had been for some time.  Looking in the mirror he could see her lying still on the seat, her eyes were glassy and unfocussed.
He pulled up in the garage and turned to face her.  He turned her face to look at her.  Seeing that she was looking more alert he reached for another syringe.  She murmured slightly in protest as the needle entered her arm.  Then she fell silent again as the drug took hold.
He felt for certain that she wasn't human, as she was way passed the limit of what a human should be able to take of that drug.  He climbed out of the car and pulled her body out and slung her over his shoulder.  It was late and he knew that everyone would either have left for their homes or would be in bed by now.
He quietly entered the house and went down to the basement where some of the heavy-duty equipment was housed.  He needed to keep her asleep in case she had any kind of supernatural abilities that could harm anyone.  He'd never hear last of it if they were all killed in their sleep.
He placed her on what was basically an autopsy table with a few minor alterations, one of which was chains.  He had her tied down and was looking at the bank of computer equipment with some puzzlement when Alex entered the room.
"Nick, is that you?"
"Come help me will you?"
She walked further into the room and her eyes fell upon the woman chained to the table.  "What the hell do you think you're doing?"  The woman was starting to stir in the chains.
"Help me before she wakes up."  Alex just stared at him.  "Alex she's not human."
That got her moving.  "What do you want me to do?"
"Keep her asleep and let me tell you that's no easy task."  He told her how many times he had injected her.  "It seems that she can shake off injury and drugs pretty quickly."
Knowing what was needed Alex walked over to the woman and started setting up a drip into her arm.  The woman opened her eyes and moaned when the needle entered her arm.  Alex looked at her closely.  Up close she was even more breathtakingly beautiful than she remembered.  Nick's cry for her to `hurry' brought her back to the task at hand.
The woman's eyes were open but unfocused, she moved her arm and with little effort broke the thick chain that was wrapped around her wrist.  She tried to pull the line out of her other arm but couldn't focus on it clearly and her arm flailed wildly around.
Keeping an eye on her arm Alex quickly finished the drip and ran over to the computer and punched in the necessary codes.  As a fresh set of drugs rushed into the woman's body she went limp again, just in time as her loose hand was just touching the drip line.
"That should do it.  I've instructed the computer to keep her asleep.  Now why did you bring her here?"
"Yes I'd like to know that as well."
They turned guiltily to look at Derek as he entered the room.
Nick quickly explained to them what he had seen and heard on the hospital roof while Derek frowned at him in disapproval.
"So you decided to bring her here?  Not knowing what she is or what kind of powers she may have.  All in the hopes of luring soul chaser here when you haven't even got a way to hurt him, let alone kill him."  Derek shook his head and walked over to the bed.
He turned the woman's face from side to side wondering what she was.  The computer bleeped and pumped an alarming amount of drugs into her body as she stirred slightly.  "Run some tests on her and see if you can't figure out what she is.  I'll look into this Soul Chaser.  If we can't find anything out by tomorrow we'll pull back from the house and let him have her."
They worked through the night but were frustrated at every turn.  Derek found conflicting reports on the Soul Chaser's.  The only thing he found was that using his blade on him would only stop him for a short time.  Nick was lucky that the Soul Chaser hadn't come after him already.
In the lab it was even more frustrating.  None of the machines they had seemed to be capable of analysing Angel.  They could see her on the monitors but every time they tried to record her image they got nothing.  Printed paper went blank and even a photograph that Nick took faded after a few seconds.  And all the while the beeps between drug doses grew less and less.  Eventually they turned the volume down trusting the computer to keep her drugged.

Chapter Forty Two
I could hear voices as I pushed my way back too consciousness.  Whatever they were drugging me with was having less and less effect on me by the minute but the amount flowing into me was uncomfortable.  I opened my eyes cautiously and looked around.
Two people were deep in conversation across the other side of the room with their backs too me.  Lifting my arm I could feel the chains restraining my body.  I pulled slowly, straining the links until they parted, grabbing the chain before it dropped to the floor.  I removed the drip from my arm, relieved to be rid of it at last.
Breaking the last of the restraints I stood up and tried to leave but with no success.  I received a message that I was needed there.
I left the room and walked through the house.  I'd recognised the people I had seen and knew where I was.  I'd never had any dealings with the Legacy group before but all the angels knew of them.  Whether they knew it or not, or would even admit too it, they were doing God's work.
I walked into the control room and looked at the man slumped across a pile of books.  Computer screens where showing references of the soul chasers.  I moved closer to the screen reading what they said.  I ran a hand over a picture of Chaser.
Derek opened his eyes as he sensed a presence in the room with him.  He sat up slowly when he saw Angel standing by the monitors.  He reached a hand down and pressed a button that would allow Nick and Alex to hear what was going on.  He just hoped that they were alive to hear.
"Why are you after him?"  I didn't even turn around to ask the question.
Her voice was so soft and he felt as if he were been mesmerised by it.  He gave himself a mental shake.  "He's killed a lot of innocent people."
"Chaser would say that none of them were innocent."
"What are you going to do?"
"Do?"  She turned around to face him.  "I've been told to stay here and wait."
"Wait for what?  Told by who?"
"Probably to stop Chaser from killing you."
"We could leave."
"Do you honestly think that would do you any good?  I'm sure that he remembers you and what happened when he got back to hell the last time you met."
She was looking over his shoulder.  Derek turned around and saw Nick and Alex entering the room.  Nick had his gun drawn.
"Why, what happened to him?"
"He was punished for a year."
"Good he deserved it for taking my brother."
"Jimmy?  He was supposed to be there.  However he shouldn't have tried to take you."
"What are you anyway?" asked Alex.
"I'm an angel."
"You've got to be kidding me?"  Snorted Nick.
"Why would I do that?"
"To trick us."
"Can you prove you are what you say you are?"
"Even if I did, you're not willing to believe are you?  Why do you find it so easy to believe in Hell but not in Heaven?"
"Does God know what you two get up to?"  Interrupted Nick before Derek could defend himself.
"God knows everything that goes on."  I realised then that it wasn't a case of when we would be found out.  He knew but nothing had been done to stop us.

Chapter Forty Three
Chaser crouched down behind a large garden ornament, a statue of a woman carrying a vase, and looked at the building ahead of him.  Recognising where he was he snarled and drew his blade.  With a quick swipe he beheaded the statue.
He knew by her scent that Angel was nearby.  Once he'd realised that she wasn't coming home he'd set out to find her.  It had taken time, every minute of which he'd cursed, but finally he was close.
Concentrating he `looked' around the building.  Tracking every corridor and searching every room he saw how many guards there were and where they were positioned.   There were many but nothing he couldn't handle if he had to.  The house was littered with cameras and lasers, again nothing he couldn't handle.
He tracked her scent through the house.  Passed the guards and all the defences, towards a hologram of a wall.  He tried to pass through but couldn't.  Growling he tried again, and again.
Swinging out his arm in frustration he smashed the statue in half.  If he couldn't get through the barrier with his mind he couldn't go directly to her.
"I'm coming Angel."  It would take time and he'd probably have to kill a few people, but he would get her back.
Chaser's long strides quickly ate up the ground as he moved towards the house.  A pack of five guard dogs raced silently towards him.  Turning he speared the dogs with a glare.
At the flash of red from his eyes the dogs screeched to a halt.  Sensing the determination and evil radiating from him they turned tail and ran.  Their whimpers echoing through the night.
Sparing them no further thought Chaser turned and started towards the house once more.  Anyone standing between him and Angel would pay.

Chapter Forty Four
I sat quietly in a corner waiting.  I knew Chaser was near as I could feel the first stirrings of fear.  The feeling that I was been hunted washed over me.  Gathering the feeling close I sat back.  He was coming for me but he wouldn't like that I'd been taken and he would be furious once he realised who'd taken me.
Nick was standing right beside me with his gun trained on me the black hole staring me unwaveringly in the face.  Not even telling him that he couldn't harm me could make him lower it.
Derek was talking on his cell phone.  Snippets of his conversation caught my ear.  As far as I could tell he was warning someone called Rachel not to come to the house until he told her otherwise.  His voice rose as he desperately pleaded with her to stay away.
Alex was busy on another phone talking to security.
"Yes that's right, I want you and the others to leave…  No we'll be fine but you need to leave the house and grounds as soon as possible…  Dave?… Dave!?…  What the hell happened?"  Her face grew pale at whatever she was hearing.
"Alex?"
"He's here…  The security cameras just picked him up in the grounds."
"Let me go to him."
"You're not going anywhere."  Snarled Nick.
My arm was suddenly grabbed roughly by him.  Something jabbed sharply into my arm followed by the feeling of liquid been forced into me as he forced the plunger on the syringe home.  Pushing him away I pulled the needle from my arm.
"Nick, what have you done?"
"Just pumped enough poison into her to kill a herd of elephants."
"You can't kill me."
"I know but it should slow you down… stop you escaping."
He was right.  I could feel every beat of my heart as it pounded away in my breast.  And my body felt so weak I couldn't move from my seat.  It couldn't kill me but until my body forced it from my system I was weak.  I just hoped that when the time came I would be strong enough to stop Chaser from killing them.
Forcing myself up from the chair I took a stumbling step forward then back.  The chair clattered as I knocked it over and slid down the wall.  Nick stood there looking at me, gun still trained on me.  Derek started towards me then froze as Alex spoke.
"Oh God.  Derek he's in the house!"

Chapter Forty Five
With a kick Chaser destroyed the front door and entered the house.  His boots clicked against the tiled floor as he stalked forward.  Using his enhanced vision he looked around.  Up was the direction he wanted to go.  Up three floors, then along to the control room at the far end of the house.
Chaser started for the stairs.  Foot poised to take the first step up he spun swiftly on his heel and caught the approaching guard in a chokehold.  The man spluttered as Chaser lifted him off his feet with one hand.
Chaser looked at the pathetic human dangling from his hand, legs twitching.  Choke him?  Break his neck?  So many ways to be rid of him.  Bracing his hand under the mans shoulder blades Chaser slammed him back first to the floor.
The mans head cracked off the floor and he lay still.  Still alive and, if he was given the proper care, he might be able to walk again.  Smiling evilly Chaser turned back to the stairs and started up them.  He took the stairs three at a time, his steps unhurried.
Another guard rushed down meeting Chaser midway up the first flight of stairs.  Chaser quickly assessed him, well built but young, looked to be no more than twenty-one.  Young and foolish.
Chaser delivered a swift punch to his stomach and tossed him down the stairs.  A low groan of pain floated up the stairs.  He'd live to see twenty-two and he's learnt a valuable lesson; never rush into a situation without assessing it first.
The next one was older and more experienced.  Chaser could `see' him crouched low at the top of the stairs, gun in hand he sighted down the barrel and smoothly squeezed the trigger.  The bullet hit Chaser in the chest, jerking him back slightly.  He looked at the small puff of smoke rising from his chest then turned to smirk at the guard.  More bullets hit him, each one with the same result, nothing.
The guard started to panic at his lack of success.  He'd emptied an entire clip into the man and he was still coming.  He looked down, fingers shaking as he struggled to reload his gun.  Finally the clip clicked reassuringly into place.  Before he could take aim a shadow fell over him, a big shadow.  Looking up he saw Chaser standing over him.
As he aimed up Chaser snatched the gun from his hands.  He looked at it questioningly then tightened his grip on the barrel.  The metal gave under his hands.  Satisfied that the man now knew how pointless it all was he dropped the twisted lump of metal to the ground.
The fight gone from him, the guard sat there and looked at what was left of his gun while waiting for the big man to finish him off.
Chaser moved on.  The guard was no longer a threat to anyone.  Beaten mentally if not physically.  Sobbing followed him along the corridor as the guard realised that he'd been spared.

Chapter Forty Six
"Where is he?"
"Second floor… nothings stopping him."
"Alex, tell them to pull back."
From my position on the floor I tried to keep track of everything that was going on while trying to hang on to consciousness.  He was coming for me and he was letting nothing stand in his way.  Soon we'd be back together and I'd be with my love, where I belonged.
"Chaser."  I smiled drunkenly at how strange my voice sounded.  Derek's face swam into focus as he knelt down to look at me.
Derek placed his fingers at Angel's throat to check her pulse.  It was strong and steady but he wasn't sure what was normal for her.  He shot a glare at Nick.  He could understand his need for vengeance but he was risking the lives of everyone in the building.  "Nick, help me move her."
Nick's argument died unborn at Derek's look.  Although they argued with each other more often than not, Derek's opinion mattered a lot to him.  He was the father figure and older brother that Nick had never really had while growing up.
Derek took Angel's shoulders while Nick took her legs.  Putting her on the leather couch Derek placed a cushion under her head.  She was still muttering under her breath, calling out for Chaser.
"I'm sorry Derek."
"We'll talk about this-"  A sudden psychic flash overwhelmed him.  Chaser standing with Angel.  Two figures were standing before them, one light, one dark.  The rest of them were lying spread out on the floor.  As suddenly as it arrived the vision was over.  Derek collapsed exhausted to the floor.
"Derek, are you alright?"
"Fine Alex, fine… is everyone out?"
"We can hear them but I can't get through to them."  Alex flicked a switch, monitors sprang to life and the room was filled with the sounds of screams, crying and groans.  "He hasn't killed anyone yet but some of them don't look too good."
"Where is he now?"
Alex pointed to a blank monitor.  "Somewhere in sector ten.  Wherever he goes the cameras go out them come back when he's left.  So we know where he is but not what he's doing."

Chapter Forty Seven
He'd been punched, kicked, shot and blasted by lasers to get to the room he was in.  Only thirty foot now stood between him and Angel.  He wanted her back in his arms, he needed her back in his arms.  Knowing how close she was he had to restrain himself from rushing forward.
"I'm here Angel."
*Chaser?*
His heart pounding when he heard her in his mind but he was worried at how weak she sounded.
He walked across the room, ignoring the repeated blasts from the lasers mounted in the corners of the room.  Chaser stepped through the hologram and into the control room.
"Angel."  He saw her instantly and was at her side in a flash.  Kneeling beside her he stroked his hand over her face.  Brushing her hair off her forehead he brushed a soft kiss across her lips.
Not once did she stir.
Her lack of response brought back too many painful memories.  "Angel?"  Chaser shook her shoulder but still she didn't respond.  "What did you do?"
Derek swallowed hard in fear as Chaser rose to his full towering height.  His eyes flashing red in anger.  "Sh-she should be alright once the drugs wear off."
Chaser let his hand drop threateningly to his blade.  "Did you know that when you drugged her?"  He could see by their guilty looks that they hadn't known for sure.
All Nick could think about while he looked at Chaser was Jimmy.  Whether he'd been about to betray him or not, he was still his brother and Chaser had taken him.  Once had been hard, twice had nearly devastated him.
Chaser stared at Nick.  All the suffering he'd gone through after they'd last tangled came back to him.  And he knew in his heart and soul that he was to blame for Angel's condition.  For that he would send him straight to Hell.  At the thought of Angel the need to fight drained from him.  Chaser looked over his shoulder at her, still no movement.  He had to get her out of here and take her home where he could look after her, where no one could harm her again.  Chaser took a step towards her.  She murmured slightly as the drugs finally started to loose their hold on her.
Consumed with rage Nick attacked Chaser from behind, throwing kicks and punches at the big mans back.  If he could somehow get Chaser's blade he could use it on him and get his revenge.
Chaser held his ground and weathered the blows to his back.  Feeling Nick reach for his blade he stopped the move by placing his hand on the hilt.  Growing weary of the fight Chaser grabbed Nick by the scruff of the neck and flipped him over his shoulder.  "Give it up little man."  He snarled into the prone mans face.
"Never!"  Nick flipped himself back to his feet and threw himself at Chaser.
Derek and Alex stood back powerless to do anything to help their friend other than watch and pray.  Nick was quicker than Chaser, his feet and hands moving almost quicker than they could follow.  Chaser had just stood there at first and taken everything that Nick had thrown his way but now he was fighting back.  Each of his blows was aimed to take Nick down quickly but Nick's speed was saving him.
"What can we do Derek?  Nick can't keep this up much longer."
"Maybe we won't have to do anything."  Derek pointed across the room to Angel.
I sat up on the settee trying to make sense of what was going on.  But my head felt all fuzzy and everything was a blur.  "Chaser?"  My heart swelled at the sight of him.  He'd come for me.
Standing up on very shaky legs I walked toward him.  With every step towards him I grew a little stronger but my head was still fuzzy.  Coming up behind him I tapped him on the shoulder.
At the touch of a hand on his shoulder Chaser reacted instinctively and lashed out.  His elbow swept back and landed with a satisfying crunch followed by a crash as whoever it was flew across the room and smashed against the far wall.
"Angel!!"  Derek shouted in a warning that came to late.
"Angel?"  With fear in his heart Chaser turned to look.  "No."  He whispered trying to deny what his eyes were seeing.  "NO!!"

Chapter Forty Eight
Chaser rushed over to Angel's prone body and cradled her gently in his arms.  She was so still it scared him.  His mind drifted back to the last time he'd nearly lost her.  He would do anything, give everything to prevent that from happening.  "Please God.  Don't let her die."
"Chaser."
He looked up at the three angels that had appeared in the room.  "Please help her."
"She will be alright."
She stirred in his arms and he sucked in a ragged breath.  "Will we be allowed to see each other?"  If they refused he would find a way to be with her but Angel would try to resist him if they told her to.  "I'll not let her go."  He warned them.
"Even the angels have freewill Chaser.  If we didn't you would never have become what you are now."
"He was an angel?"  Alex looked at Chaser in disbelief.
The angels turned to face the three humans in the room.  "Yes, one of our best.  He was an angel of death."  They turned back to Chaser.  Smiling indulgently at the way he was holding Angel gently in his arms.
"Angel of death?"
"A angel of death collects the souls of the dying and brings them home."
"What made you become a soul chaser?"
Chaser spared Derek a brief glance before turning back to angel.  "Years of standing by helplessly while the innocent suffered without been allowed to interfere.  Watching people get murdered before my eyes and knowing that there was nothing I could do to stop it.  I wanted to get the murderers before they could kill."
"Chaser?"
He kissed her fingertips as she gently stroked his face.  Her eyes were growing more alert with ever passing second.
"What happened?"  I looked at the wall wondering why it had a huge dent in it.  And why my body ached so much.  I looked around.  Derek, Alex and Nick were standing back, all were wearing matching expressions of shock as they all looked in the same direction.  Chaser's jaw was clenched tight as he looked in the same direction.  Then I noticed the glow of white in the room.  Swallowing nervously I turned my eyes to look.  "Oh."
My world came crashing down at the sight of them.  Grabbing the front of Chaser's jacket I buried my head against his chest.  They'd try and keep us apart, I knew they would.
"It's okay Angel."  Chaser stroked her cheek calmingly.  "They said they won't interfere."
"You did?"
"Why would we when you two were always destined to be together."
"Have you been manipulating us?"
"No Chaser.  Well not exactly.  We put Angel on your case hoping that something might come of it but we didn't tell her or manipulate you in any way."
Chaser's brief flash of anger at their actions faded as he looked down at Angel.  How could he stay angry when he had her in his life?
I saw Chaser's anger fade but mine was rising.  "How could you?!  Have you any idea how abandoned I felt?!  What else aren't you telling us?!"
"It's not our place to say."
"Then who's place is it?"
"You'll see soon enough but first we need to take care of a few things."  They walked over to Nick, Derek and Alex.  Each of the three angels placed a hand on the forehead of the humans.  "This is not for your eyes."  They collapsed to the ground unconscious.
"Will they be alright?"  Chaser helped me back to my feet.  Wrapping his arm around my shoulders he held me close to his side.  Needing to be closer I slipped an arm around his waist and snuggled closer to his lean, hard length.
"They'll wake with headaches in a couple of hours."
"What's so important that they can't see it?"
"That would be us Chaser."

Chapter Forty Nine
Chaser recognised the voice behind him, Satan.  His hand tightened on Angel's shoulder, fearful for her.  Then he remembered his words, "Us?"
"Yes… us.  Turn and face us."
That voice he remembered from somewhere deep inside.  The beauty of it stirred his very soul, tears sprang to his eyes.  Angel's arm tightened around his waist.
We turned to face them.  Chaser stood directly behind me, arms holding me close to keep as close a contact between us as possible while we were face to face with God and Satan.  I glanced at Satan then quickly averted my eyes.  He was beautiful but his eyes, the evil within them, scared me.
Chaser glanced at God but turned quickly away.  He could get no real sense of what he looked like.  The glow radiating from him was too pure and powerful for him to see anything.  Chaser wanted to fall to his knees as a feeling of peace and goodness washed over him.  Chaser looked down at Angel the love he felt for her blocking everything else out.
"What do you want with us?"  I cowered back against Chaser as both of them turned their attention on me.  The warmth of Chaser's body against my back calmed me down.  I stroked a hand over his arm my love for him rushed up and overwhelmed everything else.
The three angels stepped forward.  "We will answer your questions.  First we'd like to say how… proud we are with the two of you.  The way you've learned to work together has far surpassed our expectations."
"You knew?  What am I saying of course you knew."
"I think this might be easier if we start at the beginning."
"Maybe we should give them back their memories?"
"Lets tell them first."
"Memories?"
"Soon child…"
I listened as they filled me in on the fact that Chaser used to be an angel of death.  But not been able to stand back any longer he'd left and became a soul chaser.
"But what I'm sure he doesn't remember is the time you used to spend together."
Something suddenly clicked back inside my mind and memories I hadn't been aware of missing rushed back.  My body sagged under the weight of it and Chaser staggered slightly under the weight of his newfound memories.
"You saw each other and that was it, every second you could find you were wrapped in each other's arms."
I could remember everything as they talked.  That first sudden rush of feeling when I saw him for the first time.  How we used to just spend hours looking into each other's eyes, oblivious to anything else.
"We, foolishly, separated you.  We didn't realise how incomplete you felt apart.  It was then that Chaser took up the job of angel of death while we gave Angel any job that would keep her busy and keep you apart."
The time we'd spent apart had felt like a punishment and now I knew that it had been just that.
"We were told of our error but it was too late, Chaser left before we could put things right.  You were distraught at the loss."
I looked up into Chaser's eyes, remembering all over again how devastated I'd been when I'd heard that he'd not only left me, but he'd also left to join the enemy.  "It hurt."  It had more than hurt, but I couldn't find the words to express just how she'd felt.  The tightening of his arms around my body told me he understood.
"It hurt me too… But I knew it was hopeless for us… and I hated my job."  When he'd left he's thought he was doing the right thing, for both of them.  Instead all he'd done was hurt her.  The one thing he'd been trying to prevent.
"Finally, fearing for her, and at Angel's request, we erased her memory of your time together."
I looked at them, wondering if they knew how close I'd been to following Chaser down to Hell.  What I was, what I did and whom I loved had created a battle within that I couldn't fight.  At least, not then.  Now I would willingly give up everything I was to be with Chaser.
"I was also finding it difficult to be without Angel and asked them to erase my memories of her."  Holding her in his arms again, he wished he'd had the strength to fight for her.  To fight for both of them.
"You were never really happy though…  Then the perfect opportunity came along when the soul chasers started taking people they shouldn't."
"That was Deimos' doing as well.  But it was something I agreed with, as capturing lost souls was no longer enough.  In a way it was no different than the job I'd been doing before."
I could tell he was furious at their manipulation, I was feeling it myself.  If they had just left us alone we could have been together.  Instead of which our lives were all part of some unnamed plan.  We were just pawns.  Chaser pulled me back into his arms as I tried to step away.
"Don't leave me."  Hugging Angel against his chest, Chaser glared at the angels that had very nearly ruined everything for them.  "You…"
"There is a reason for everything Chaser.  And although you may feel as though you have been manipulated, you always had your freewill."
"You decided to leave."
"Angel asked for her memories to be taken."
"Every action you have taken since then was yours to take.  You saved Angel when it went against the very nature of what you are.  And Angel worked with you when it went against her nature."
"What now?"
"What now?"
"Yes.  What now?  I will not give her up… no matter what you say!  I can't… I love her."
I stroked a hand over his face, tracing the full softness of his lips in wonder.  He'd never really said those words before.  Normally he just said he loved being with me.  I knew he loved me but hearing it filled my heart with joy.  Love bubbling up inside me until I thought I'd burst.  "Oh Chaser."
"I love you."  Gathering her close, Chaser joined their lips together.  Thoughts of everything else leaving him.
I blushed furiously as the angels cleared their throats to gain our attention.  There was a smug look on Chaser's face as he wrapped his arms around my waist again.
"I'm still waitin'.  What now?"

Chapter Fifty
"I think we'll answer that."
I shivered as God spoke, his gentle voice filling the room and seeping deep into my body.  They had both been so quiet that I'd nearly forgotten that they were even there at all.
"What you are now, has been known forever.  Freewill meant things could have gone differently, just like they said.  But what you are now also means that you can never truly go back to what you were."
"How do you mean?"
"What he means, child, is that there is no room for you in Heaven anymore or for Chaser in Hell."
"What!"
"Ignore him my son.  The Prince of Lies is just manipulating things again.  He can't stand the fact that he's lost you."
Chaser looked at Satan.  Yes he was obviously annoyed at the way things had gone, but he wasn't lying completely either.
"You have both… evolved beyond what you were.  So in a way he was right but he was lying.  Any time you feel the need, you can go back to Heaven or Hell.  But you belong together now… at each others side, raising your children."
"Children?"  I touched my stomach in wonder, my hand meeting Chaser's as he stroked the gentle swell of my belly.  "Children?"
"You will give birth to the next generation of angels."
"Children?"
Throwing up his hands at the wonder in Chaser's voice, Satan stalked around the room grumbling under his breath.
"They will be special.  Part angel, part demon.  Capable of living in either realm.  Your task will be to teach them all they need to know; how to temper their strength with love and understanding.  For their task will be as yours is now; condemning the escaped back to Hell and passing judgement where necessary."
I was having trouble getting passed the idea of having children.  Chaser's children.  Our children.  It was something angels never had as angels and demons weren't born, they just were.  I placed my hands over Chaser's where they still rested over my womb as a wave of intense love blossomed from my heart.
"Your first child will be most special indeed.  I know her death effected you both greatly… so I'm bending the rules a little and giving her soul a second chance."
A picture formed inside my mind of the little baby from the hospital that had grabbed Chaser's hand.  The picture shifted to give me a glimpse of what she was to become.  A raven haired, golden-eyed angel with powder blue wings.  Nearly as tall as her father she wore tight leather trousers topped with a flowing white blouse.  At her side hung a wicked looking sword.  A beautiful smile curved her lips preventing her from looking too fearsome.
I turned in Chaser's arms.  A soft smile curved his lips.  The same smile I'd seen on our daughters face.  Our daughter.  Green eyes smiling softly in wonder, his head lowered, lips claiming mine as I lifted my face to receive his kiss.
"Our child."  Chaser was aware of the wonder in his voice.  But he didn't care.  Finally he was free to be with the woman he loved, his Angel, and they were to be blessed with children.  Something he hadn't known he'd wanted until that moment.
"It will not be easy, this path you are on.  You may find that children can be unappreciative of what you do for them.  It will be doubly worse for them and you as their two natures fight against each other.  If you do not feel that it is something you can handle, say so now."
I looked at Chaser.  He was more than likely right.  Things would not be easy for us.  And it would probably be far easier to just not try, walk away.  But I knew that, together, we could do it.
"As long as you work together in all things my children I'm sure everything will work out fine."  Gently he drew Angel out of Chaser's arms and gave her a gentle hug.  "You will both do fine.  Just remember your love for each other.  And if you need help… you know what to do."
I stepped back into Chaser's strong arms as the others stepped back ready to leave.  Satan still looked less than pleased, leaving me wondering if he would create trouble for us later.
"Don't worry," whispered Chaser as he felt Angel shiver as she looked at Satan, "remember… together.  Nothing will come between us as long as we stick together my love.  Nothing."  Satan nodded his head, letting him know that he'd heard and understood his barely concealed threat.  "Now lets go home.  I believe we've got some babies to make."
I shivered deep and long at the seductive rumble of his voice, body clenching at the thought of been with him again.  "Wait… what about them?"  Chaser let out a low growl as his eyes fell upon the unconscious humans.  "What if they try something again?"
"Don't worry my children, they will wake and know nothing of what has happened as far as Chaser and you are concerned.  And as we speak the injured are been tended to."
They left as quietly as they had arrived leaving Chaser and I alone.  Taking his hand I took us back to the hospital roof.  The place where he'd first touched me.  Wrapping his arms around my waist he stood at my back as we watched the stars rush by in the heavens above.  Time had little meaning as we just enjoyed being with each other.  No words needing to be spoken.  But there was something I needed to say.
"I love you Chaser."
"And I love you Angel.  I may not say it as often as I should… but know it to be true.  I loved you from the moment I first saw you, both in heaven and down here and I will love you throughout all eternity."  Nuzzling the sensitive spot just behind her ear he took in the scent of her rising arousal.
Within the blink of an eye Angel found herself looking out across the familiar skyscape of their home.
Taking Angel's hand in his, Chaser pressed his lips to the back of her hand.  Her eyes turned from brown to a burning gold.  The same colour that their daughters' eyes would be.  The colour of her love.
Heart threatening to burst, Chaser gently guided her willing body through the velvet curtains and into their home to start their new lives together.
The End.
